It's obvious that the deficit will go out of control if this big spender gets in and raises taxes and spending. Cutting taxes further to increase the economy, while cutting spending, not raising it, is the way to go.

Actually he's just promising things in order to gain votes.

Almost every politician who runs for Presidency or some other position does the exact same thing.

You don't know how someone will actually spend until they get into office..

Yes, and as long as we have a president giving his buddies tax breaks while INCREASING spending, our deficit is climbing.

Hope you enjoy retiring with no social security.

Tax breaks increase revenue to the government, thus lowering the deficit if spending is frozen or cut.

Bush has a plan to fix Social Security, but the Democrats seem to want it to fail.

Wait a minute... Tax breaks INCREASE revenue to the government? I thought MORE taxes increased revenue to the government.

Please explain.

Yes, tax cuts increase revenue every time.

Let's see what President John F. Kennedy had to say:

Quote:
There are a number of ways by which the Federal Government can meet its responsibilities to aid economic growth. We can and must improve American education and technical training. We can and must expand civilian research and technology. One of the great bottlenecks for this country's economic growth in this decade will be the shortage of doctorates in mathematics, engineering, and physics; a serious shortage with a great demand and an under-supply of highly trained manpower. We can and must step up the development of our natural resources.

But the most direct and significant kind of Federal action aiding economic growth is to make possible an increase in private consumption and investment demand--to cut the fetters which hold back private spending. In the past, this could be done in part by the increased use of credit and monetary tools, but our balance of payments situation today places limits on our use of those tools for expansion. It could also be done by increasing Federal expenditures more rapidly than necessary, but such a course would soon demoralize both the Government and our economy. If Government is to retain the confidence of the people, it must not spend more than can be justified on grounds of national need or spent with maximum efficiency. I shall say more on this in a moment.

The final and best means of strengthening demand among consumers and business is to reduce the burden on private income and the deterrents to private initiative which are imposed by our present tax system; and this administration pledged itself last summer to an across-the-board, top-to-bottom cut in personal and corporate income taxes to be enacted and become effective in 1963.

I am not talking about a "quickie" or a temporary tax cut, which would be more appropriate if a recession were imminent. Nor am I talking about giving the economy a mere shot in the arm, to ease some temporary complaint. I am talking about the accumulated evidence of the last 5 years that our present tax system, developed as it was, in good part, during World War II to restrain growth, exerts too heavy a drag on growth in peace time; that it siphons out of the private economy too large a share of personal and business purchasing power; that it reduces the financial incentives for personal effort, investment, and risk-taking.

In short, to increase demand and lift the economy, the Federal Government's most useful role is not to rush into a program of excessive increases in public expenditures, but to expand the incentives and opportunities for private expenditures.
http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/site/...ar=1962&id=549

Kennedy understood that cutting the burden on business and individuals increases economic activity, thus putting more money into the federal coffers.

Reagan cut taxes, and revenues to the Treasury doubled from $500 billion to over $1 trillion during his two terms.

Democrats use taxes as a class warfare tool, so they can't afford to help the country, and have their main weapon taken away.

I'm sure Bush will only cost us about $25 or so. It's not like he ever spends money. In fact, I think the war with Iraq was free.

Bush has proposed to cut spending next year to bring the deficit down, John Kerry has proposed $1.7 trillion dollars in new spending. That's 19 times what the Iraq War cost.

"Proposed" being the operative word. I proposed to be a football player when I was young, and it didn't quite work out.

This is just the same tired Republicans vs. Democrats debate we've had a billion times. Doesn't even matter who the candidates are anymore; just matters who they're affiliated with.

We'll see about the cutting spending. If the neo-cons decide to go after Syria, Iran, etc., yada yada, then spending will increase.

To "propose" something is to wish it to happen.

Kerry has proposed spending 19 times what the war in Iraq cost, so if spending is your issue, you must be a Bush man.

Further, I'd like to see where the GOP got its data.

Increase Minimum Wage, $16 Million
??

How does that cost $16 million in federal dollars? And has Kerry proposed spending $16 million for it, or is that an empty figure?

It would cost at least that much to print up the new rule books and send them out.
