French flags no longer are flying high and proud outside the Sofitel Hotel in midtown Manhattan. The French-owned hotel chain, part of the French hotel company Accor whose units include U.S. motel chains Red Roof Inn and Motel 6, replaced the flags with the Stars and Stripes as a peace offering to its American guests.

Sofitel spokesman Paul Charoy said the company last week decided to remove the French flags in front of all eight of its hotels in the United States as a "precautionary" measure and replaced them with a combination of the American flag and city and state flags.

"We wanted to calm down the situation a little," Charoy said. "We were getting some severe feelings and threats directed toward the safety and security of our employees and customers."

"This is not a political consideration," Charoy said. "The move is temporary and we just wanted to be safe."

If they hadn't taken down their flags, you would have called it an act of defiance. Then launched into some whacko, paranoid, diatribe, tripe accusing the French of dirrectly and activley collaborating with terrorist and Saddam, eating babies, attempting to undermine the constitutuion, etc.

Chances are, Sixgun, I'm far more violent than you. I'm certain I am less likely to shy away from bloodshed than you. The only difference between your violence, and my violence, is that mine needs good justification.

This justification is needed for the balance of power, which is a requirement for true freedom.

This is why the government was drafted with multiple branches. This is why all people are allowed one equal vote. This is why the U.S. should listen to foreign opposition. If we valued the freedom of our neighbors as much as we value our own, if we valued true freedom, we'd have waited longer as our friends, allies, neutral associates, and enemies alike have requested.

If you fight fot the freedom of the Iraqis, if you fight for a valiant effort, why then do you seek to suppress my voice?

If it is our policy not to allow terrorists to affect the way our country operates, why then did our foreign policies go down the gutter?

You insist that people like me, the protestors, the french, the U.N. aid the terrorists. I insist they've already won. What victory could a terrorist hope to achieve greater than this? We're doing Osama Bin Laden a great favor by taking Saddam out for him.
