I am very valuable to the immediate supervisors yet when you work in a corporate environment you are only as valuable as your replacement...... and only as valuable as your position can be..... especially when in that environment the corporation can easily replace you not caring how well you do your job.... and in the end it is cost effective for them to do so as they would pay your replacement a lower beginning wage.....

I do understand them.

You don't automatically get a raise when the economy does better. You get a raise when you are more productive.

Productivity has been increasing IN GENERAL for a while, and is higher now because we're coming out of a recession. (Also, you're not talking about the same jobs.)

Average wages have been rising, not falling.

So you do not understand at all.... seeing as how I work for a Union and even with that benefit do not get a raise.... I face pay-caps which are only increased through cost-of-living-wage increases..... the Union fights for these every year... this year we were almost all denied this colw increase yet the Corporation was facing a record year and so decided to pass it.....

Productivity in my business does not automatically grant you a raise.... that is a phallacy..... there are others doing my job second rate who may get written up every once in a bit but still make as much as I do..... too bad that

Nothing trickles down when unions distort the market. In the real world, where employers and employees can directly negotiate, the free market operates.

Actually dear dgg9 now I can see that you do not understand the workings of the average jobplace.... you see out of the 20 stores in my district only 3 are union... and I am very happy to work in a Union Store.... those that do not work in a Union Store must pay for thier benifits and make a lower wage.... I get completely free to me Medical, Dental, and Vision plus my wage is capped at about a dollar above those who work in a non-union store.... plus Utah is a right-to-work state which means an employer can fire you for any reason without explanation nor notice and is protected by state law UNLESS you work in a Union environment which protects you from this as well as bias and other practices which find thier way into non-union stores..... within the non-union stores they tend to fire for any fault and fill the position with a lower payed new employee....

I can see you do not understand the workings of arithmetic. If 3 of 20 stores are union, then the union store is not "average." In general, the percentage of jobs in the US that are union has been falling for decades.

The problems of unions are well known. Any insight you think you might grasp has been known and analyzed for decades. Unions sever the worker's productivity from reward. The inevitable result is decline in union industries.

In case you didn't notice, none of this has anything to do with the free market. If unions are exmpt by law from supply and demand and other economic realities, you may think you have a good deal now, but over time, your uncompetitive business will simply lose market share to non-union shops.
