That is to say, if I am getting 10 apples a day for 2 weeks, then I am getting 9 apples, then 8, then 7, I am still increasing, but at a slower rate. If my livelyhood depends on the highest rate possible, I am losing money.

The changes are merely to tack hispanics and other minoriteis more effectively.
The numbers are the numbers. Bush has added over 1 million new jobs.

Unfortunately for you, your data does not prove that there are less jobs now than when Bush took over. It merely shows that the unemployment rate is higher now (5.6%) than in 2001 (4.1%). We already knew that.
The fact is, there are over 1 million more jobs now, than then, according to the BLS data. The claim of 3 million lost jobs is an obvious lie.
