I'm watching it right now.

I have to be honest. Kerry is kicking Bush's ass. Bush looks unconfident, defensive, and he's bumbling around more than usual.

Dan Rather is about to have an orgasm and spew all over the camera.

Yeah, Bush seemed like a bumbling moron, what else is new? The man can barely give public speeches, how do you think he's gonna do in a live debate?

Overall, though, I think he went into more detail. A lot of Kerry's responses seemed to be very blunt answers with no depth or explaination on how he proposed to acheive his goals. One minute he's talking about how we need a backdoor draft and aren't allowing troops to leave the service, the next minute he says he's adding more special forces groups and two more regiments to the Army, as if he's going to somehow magically pull them out of his ass.

One minute he says we're over extended, the next that we need to supply more aid, again, with this magical ass Army of his.

Bush is slow, but contrary to everyone complaining about how bad things are in America, I haven't seen any evidence of it, no one I know has lost a job or is having trouble making ends meet. The war in Iraq was poorly planned for, but I think the war itself was neccisary. Ultimately, I trust Bush's judgement more than Kerry's and I think what Bush said about needing a president who is not frequently changing positions to inspire trust and dependability (but not dependency) is very true.

George Washington was known for being a very slow witted man. When he needed to make decisions, he often took his time with it. However, even his opponents were willing to admit that when he had finally made a decision, it was in the nation's best interests. I feel this way about Bush a lot of the time.

haha, yeah. The only disappointment I had with Kerry was, well, what CRAZ said. He was kinda blunt, and he blew a lot of opportunities where he just could have ripped Bush apart, but didn't. Over all, I think Kerry still kicked some ass.

I don't think Bushy looked like the bumbling idiot he usually makes himself out to be... had to give him credit for that. But he did get a whoopin', and hopefully this will keep up and it will be Kerry in '04.

well heres my point-
the debate was scripted out by teams from both parties working together to form a pre-written, non-spontaneous TV spot. This is a fact and was reported in several news agancies and cnn. Both bush and kerry were basically reading scripts! how the fuck can anybody put ANY validity in these debates? why should anyone care?

did you not watch? If that debate was completely scripted Kerry, Bush, and the moderator should all win emmy's.

Certainly bush and Kerry both had there rules and whatnot, and I'd agree there was WAY too much of that (a lot of that broke down about half way through though).

If you dig into the content, Kerry lied repeatedly, and promised the world without saying HOW he would get it done, but that doesn't matter. He looked good doing it, and the shlubs who don't follow this stuff regularly will like that and vote for Kerry because of it.

Kerry did rip Bush apart, within the bounds of civility. Kerry was on the offensive from the word go. He forced Bush to defend himself for too long, and it looked bad for Bush.

I'm always honest with my opinions. When I post it, it may be wrong, or I may be mistaken, but it's what I believe to be true. Can't deny reality. Kerry looked more presidential than Bush did on that stage. He didn't change my mind or my vote, but I acknowledge that he kicked Bush's ass for 90 minutes.

You've got to be kidding me. On his best days, Bush mangles the English language, last night he looked even worse. He had too many long pauses, and he was slouching over the podium.

It was important because the first debate is when many people START paying attention to the election. It's an opportunity for both candidates to lay out their plans in a controled environment, with a large audience. Kerry had a far better presentation than Bush, he won the style war.

In spite of the lies and the facts, Kerry looked the best. That's what counts with many voters.

Well let's face it, when it comes to looks, Kerry really never had anything going for him, well, nor did Bush, but I know what you meant.

I'd have to say Bush. With Bush I think I'd at least get a reach around.
