The rundown: Neo-Nazi group legally assembles in low-income Polish neighborhood for demonstration. Black gang members (note the use of the phrase GANG MEMBERS) get wind of it and show up. Violence errupts. Nazis escorted away. Gang members get shitty.

I have to wonder why it is that in todays world, skin color still seems to preside over individuality... Why is it that skin color must be mentioned to the point of seeming to preside over the very reason WHY those people are rioting? They're not rioting because they have darker skin, they're rioting because they are standing up for their rights as individuals, against a White Supremacy group.

The fact that the police would protect a march of a white supremacy group, also gives cause for me to raise my eyebrows as for what type of neighborhood the place is anyways.

We have the freedom to gather if we follow the appropriate bylaws and get the correct permits.
We cannot pick an dchoose who we give that freedom to. If they follow the letter of the law they may gather peacefully.

We have that freedom up here too, however pre-arranged police escort? I could very easily be wrong, but up here if you wanted to gather, and your gathering required pre-arranged police escort, because it was already known that the gathering would NOT be peaceful, I'm not sure the permits would be granted.

When you apply for permits here to gather it is a granted that if protection is needed it will be granted by the local authorities. They were planning a peaceful gathering it was those who came to make it a non-peaceful gathering who are at fault.... namely the black gangs who showed up.

We also have police presence at concerts. Should we now decline permits to those who decide to throw a concert because violence MAY happen??

Step outside your own shoes for a minute, and look at it from the perspective the other side.

The government is not only supporting white supremacy groups by allowing permits for this kind of thing on a public front, but they are protecting them as well.

On an individual level sure people have the freedoms to choose what they are going to believe about certain things, they even have the freedom to speak it aloud, and no they won't get arrested, because *laughs* America is the "land of the free" (although I have to laugh at that concept these days) but there's a difference imo between what an individual chooses to believe & speak about, and what a government chooses to publicly support. If permits need to be acquired to gather, its not as "free" as one may think.

You also have to have a permit to go fishing. I seriously doubt that limits the freedom of snagging and gutting a trout.

The permits exist for the protection of the people protesting as well as those witnessing said protest.


And imagine what would have happened if the police weren't allowed to offer their protection in this particular situation.

That CNN link is even more interesting... which is surprising, considering I don't consider CNN a real reliable news source.

If that is true, then there is definitely more to be taken into consideration re: this incident, than the other links showed.

The CNN link also says they were protesting black Crime... which while I am not sure I understand the need to single out criminals by skin color, I will acknowledge that the demographics of the area may have something to do with it, I don't really know. Up here, criminals are criminals... we have some "gangs" but if they're unappreciated it is for the activities they do, more than what their skin color either is or isn't.

I do not know the laws in canada but here in the US as long as we get the appropriate permits we have the freedom to gather and protest regardless of creed, religion, or background. That is why we are a free country.
If I wanted to get a soapbox and go to a park and preach about the apocolypse and the coming armegeddon i could. I might need to be sure I had the correct permits to do so but I could.

First of all I'm offended at your statement re: porn. I do not "help" run a porn site, I -do- run a porn site & any idiot in the adult industry will tell you that the people who are IN the adult industry who have BY FAR more access to the "online porn world" are the ones who report the CP that is out there. Further, that particular group didn't get any permits at all, as was posted in another link... in this instance I am more inclined to believe CNN over the other links.

Preaching about the apocalypse & armageddon, is considerably different than you & a grouup of your friends walking around informing those around you that you a: are better than people who aren't of your skin color and therefore b: have more right to be there.
