Shock-rock legend Alice Cooper calls rock stars campaigning for Democrat John Kerry treasonous morons.

The 56-year-old Cooper says he was disgusted to learn the likes of Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, R.E.M., Sheryl Crow, James Taylor and Dave Matthews were hitting the road for a series of concerts designed to help defeat President Bush.

"To me, that's treason," Cooper told the Canadian Press. "I call it treason against rock 'n' roll because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics."

"When I was a kid and my parents started talking about politics, I'd run to my room and put on the Rolling Stones as loud as I could. So when I see all these rock stars up there talking politics, it makes me sick.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

so it's treason when people do what they can within legal and financial means to remove a president they feel is not a good asset to this country?

Anyone with a sliver of gray matter in their head can tell that this thread is a plug, close it.

The funniest thing about this is that he essentially says "People who use rock for politics are morons" and then uses his status as a rock star to endorse Bush later on in the article.

I don't know, in some ways this is not entirely different from the charity rock events such as (I think it was called) FarmAid...just a different scope.

I posted it because I thought it was funny. That's why I included the lyrics of a few of his more gruesome songs, to give perspective.

Sounds fairly typical really. When you're young and don't have much then you fight against the stats quo and everything that represents it (i.e. conservatism), which is all admirable because you have principles when you're young, because they are all you can afford.

However, when you've actually made something of yourself and gotten ahead in life, your perspective changes. All of a sudden you start to think that keeping things exactly as they are would be a good idea, because you're comfortable now. Sure, when you talk to your buddies you still deplore all the things that you always did. You sign petitions against inequality, you want everyone treated fairly and given an even break.

But when it comes to voting every four years; you want to make sure that nothing changes for you.

Maybe Alice Cooper should have kept his mouth shut, carried on nodding and smiling and letting everyone think that he's still the same old Alice he always was. Like he himself said "If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are."

I'm not surprised. This is the man's job, to be shocking. He just can't seem to do it with music anymore, so he's doing this.

Just let the man do what he wants to. He's earned it.
