You are confusing 2 types of memory with eachother. Harddrive space and RAM memory to be precise.

To check your harddrive space:
Go to "My Computer"
Doubleclick it
Rightclick the "C:" disk, choose properties
It should say the correct space there

RAM memory is much faster and much smaller then your harddrive, this is where the computer loads and processes stuff you have running. Even this screen you are reading now

well, if that is the case. howcome i cant load new programs directly into my computer? if my hard drive is high, and my ram is low, how do i up my ram, or clean it out a little so that i can still put in programs. it says i dont have enough space to upload a 65 mb program........ see the problem.

games, audio/visual programs, etc... wont load into the computer itself.

You have to Buy New Ram Chips.

Because the computer accesses the information off the ram not the hard drive. And their is not enough space in your ram to store all the required info for the program to work.

Okay, the technical info:

RAM = Random Access Memory. A computer can access any bit in that memory directly, when it needs to. Millions of read/write operations occur every second.

Harddrive = Sequencial medium, meaning you need to access a large part of data to get that one byte you need. Apart from that, since it's a medium with physically moving parts, it's a lot slower to access the data.

You can try picking up a ram boosting program and see if that helps (before you shell out for more ram).

MaxMem and MemTurbo are two good freeware ones, available at www.download.com

It sounds to me like you have a 40 gig Hd, Ide replace or slave another to it first off, second remember when buying ram to check for wat series is compatable to you motherboard { example pc 2100 SDRAM, alot of old broards will not support DDR.} and remember to mirror your first stik of ram, so if you original stik is pc 2100 sdrarm 128 you would either replace it or add another stik of pc 2100 sdrarm 128 to the next slot.
Also another fact not many realize is that Windows XP of any version requires 512 MB of ram to operate correctly.
