remember when a 40mb hdd was the big thing? or when computers had a turbo button? or how about when if you had more than 4mb of memory, you were the cool kid? what else is there that is just plain outrageous?

lets not forget a 14.4kpbs modem with dial up to your local school district....

I had a customer in the store the other day who said he remembers paying $600 for an 8MB HD.

damn...if he waited a few years he could have saved a few hundred - or just go to the local dollar store

argh, my first computer didn't even have a HD! It was an old 386 that I had to boot from a 5 1/4 MS-DOS floppy. It was a great learning experience, I learned about command line and basic computer operations at an early age...probably why I like linux today. But what really sticks out in my mind, is thinking back to my old 75mhz system.. i don't think it even had a heat sink on the processor... that's scary considering people are now using peltier cooling systems now to keep their homebrewed system frosty. ..... reading that, it makes me sound old.. i'm only 22

I remember the first computer I ever saw did not have a monitor.... it had a built in twelve line red LED interface and was more-so a stylized calculator than anything else.... but it did copy data to tape and was modem capable.....

That was ages ago..... yuckies...

Hell I can go back even further! I've got an old Commodore 64 computer! AND I STILL USE IT! loL! But it brings back some fun memories to hear about all the old hardware here that used to be the pinnacle of technology! Thanks everyone!

My grandpa had a Commodore 64. I remember having to load ,8,1. Then the 128 came out. Had one of those for awhile. The coolest program back in teh day was Eliza. My uncle had an Amiga and that program talked. I thought it was so cool back then.

I actually owned a TRS-80!!!!!

ah...apple computers. i use to think that playing Sim City 1 on an apple computer in my 7th grade class was cool - now look what happened - they have sim everything....an apple computer? whats that?
