on my pc.....when i play games with 8 or 16 bit sound.....it goes all...wonky....

but i can play mp3s and stuff just fine...

Ah, AC'97. Those are "software" soundcards that rely on the CPU for sound processing. It is probably the problem, those were not designed to do old-style sound processing.

Get a Creative SB 128/1024/5.1 OEM. Suffices for old games.
