it had no agp slot.
it had the printing on the board, the ability to have one, but no slot, and apparently they have nothing in the bridge to drive one.
how to cut costs eh... and make people buy newer machines from them.
i'd never ever buy a pre-packaged machine.
and in my experience, the only laptop i'd buy myself now, is either a mac, or, an asus. we've had two asus laptops in 7 years as a family, and the older one still works fine. it's just the screen hinges gave in from so much use. it still works sweet though.
and they cost next to nothing as well. i regularly steal my dad's one.
lol! what happens when kit actually built to last eh?
Laptops are ace but its their lack of upgrade-ability that makes them suffetr over desktops, they are not built like Desktops and infact very few laptops can have their GPU's or processors replaced as they are optimised for the machine it'self. Hence why when you buy one its worth buying a high-en one, makes it last much longer.
All in all I would rather spend the cash on a desktop PC and have all the features and benefits that come with it, such as overclocking he he

Bah... laptops go out of date in several months anyways.... so I bought a top o' the line.... the Dell 1705 got high reviews for its ability to blaze games Plus it just looks good
We shall see how long it lasts..... of course i am going to upgrade the warranty.....

I built my home desktop. I am going to build one for my shop for customer use as well as to display because I am going to sell custom built computers out of my shop as a side-job and for extra cash
I can upgrade this laptop but I would have to send it in

Its a good idea selling computers on the side providing your allowed, and if you have any knowledge on good configurations and especially overclocking you could make even more money
Oh and nice one for making your own system, nothing better than doing it yourself

people go on so much about upgrading. with a laptop, other than diskspace, why would you want to upgrade? laptops aren't designed to be your base system. they aren't made to be your one and only. they're portable, work on the go machines.
i sure as hell wouldnt have a laptop as my base. its silly.
upgrading machines is kinda a waste at the moment, for the price of the components plus a little more, you can buy a whole base system unit (keeping old O/S and peripherals) so for the cost of 2 dvd drives (ontop of your mb/cpu/ram/gfx card set) or a reasonable HDD you can buy a new whole base.
i've done both. and i do think that i won't upgrade any more. just buy a new box.
you can always put your old HDD in anyway as a slave, or add it to your array (if you havent maxed it out) and there you go.
with the way tech moves, sockets come and go, and new slots come and go. fuck it, buy new.
lol! Thanks Tozzy, but funnily enough, Laptops are setting new trends, they are becoming "desktop replacements", the term isn't new but its been around a while, and there are laptops these days that can easily out muster most configurations of desktop, such as the latest laptops featuring SLI.
So to be honest your only half right, I still wouldn't buy a laptop as my only machine as I demand too much from just a laptop, especially considering how old the thing is but Laptops are quickly bridgeing the gap and really now adays Laptops are powerful (and equally heavy enough :/) not to be considered "portable".

so yeah, buy yourself a laptop, that you cant have on your lap, can't take anywhere with you because its too heavy, costs more than a desktop system and can't be used as a base machine because you demand too much from it. oh and the screens are not as good quality. unless its a mac.
"desktop replacement" is the same as all those fancy words shampoo companies come out with. "ultrashinealox" or "silkysmoothaphetalin" and shit like that.
