Well I have been assembling a Computer for my friend and out of jealousy decided to assemble my own and sell off the Compaq I have because i have a problem paying $120 for a 250Watt Power Supply?????? ((Mine burnt out and since it is proprietory to compaq you can only buy it from them))
So I went out and bought a Biostar M7NCD Socket A and a pretty AMD XP(Barton Core) 2800 to go along with it
I also purchased a nice flashy case kit with key and mousey.....

Next I plan on getting a IBM/Hitachi 200Gig/7200RPM HDD((fastest over 160gig HDD on the market)) Hitachi makes a blazing10-15gig HDD but I want more room than that((15000RPM))----
Than I will purchase some 333mhz pc2700 DDR X2 512 Kingston((because Kingston is the best ))

I already have a really good soundcard and vidcard so that will do me

Wheeee.... than I will sell off this compaq and nevermore pay over 100$$ for a powersupply

My Step father said they last much longer than Seagate Barracudas which tend to get so hot they can fry an egg on thier case If anyone here has a Seagate I would get a fan sleeve for the sucker..... seeing as how he(my stepfather) has the patent on the thermal grease they use on the Hitachi I would take his word on it

why not get ddr 400 instead, and does that board your getting support dual ddr?

I just looked it up, you should get DDR400 instead, it is the same price, and that board does support it in dual DDR mode, doubling its bandwidth.

Yep ... never had any complaints with Kingston ram.

So Kingston it is Hmm... two 512MB 333MHz DDR PC2700 DIMM CL2.5... I think I go with 333 because it is advised by Kingston for the Motherboard....

I like Hitachi.... heard a few bad things about them.... but you hear that about them all... Maxtor---- crashing...... Seagate----runs very hot..... etc etc..... never heard a bad thing about Western Digital though.... I might gibve them a go....

Hitachi HDD"s are not even available where I am, either that or just nobody wants them ... they are unheard of over here. Western is good, i sell those, the best performing drive we had for the longest time ... untill maxtor and seagate released thier 8MB versions. I would say, if you did not care about noise, go WD, if you do, go maxtor. I have a Maxtor and i cannot even hear it.

As for the ram .... that is no reason to sacrifice performace, based on one companies recommendations, if i were you, i would research what DDR 400 ram runs best on that board.

I can get the Kingston for 40% off... so two 512 PC 2700's will run me about 160bucks or so.... and I trust Kingston very much so I will go with thier advice.... Maxtor has excellent hard Drives and I may go with a 250Gig one..... it is much cheaper than the Hitachi though the Hitachi has a faster seek time....

My Vid card that I have in my present computer is one I will stick with.. it is a Xtasy 9600 256MB AGP.... and my soundcard is very good as well...

So since I can get it for the same price at kingston.com I am getting some 2X512 400DDR PC3200..... with rebate from kingston I can get them for 79.99 a stick.... very nice price that lasts only until the end of this month

Dy, i prefer to read bench marks from a third party company. Like i saw the ebnch marks for the WD Raptor drives and they have to be some of the fastest drives i have ever seen. Nice vid card, but i tend to prefer Nvidia, though as far as i know ATI is a Canadian company. Being a linux user I already know how to set up the Nvidia drivers where I am not even sure if they have ATI drivers for it as of yet. I am putting off building a new system till Athlon introduces the new chipset for the 64 bit chips and the PCI express slots come out this summer as well.

Shit... you better save up some money than... the damn 64bit chips cost an arm and a leg... I looked into it... I payed a little over $100 for my XP 2800+... the 64bit starts at a bit over $400 or so.... for the chip alone....

Odd, they're only about E200,- here... Sometimes even less. Are you looking at the server version perhaps? The one that's MPS compatible and uses 1 or 2MB internal cache? Those are expensive but not for home use...
