| Forum slowness: Solution! -

A friend put my attention to the sluggishness of the forum. He pointed out that one of the ads servers was the perpetrator. This file, once unzipped to the proper location, should prevent any further sluggishness.
For Windows 95, 98 and ME unzip the attached file in C:\Windows
For Windows 2000 / XP unzip attached file in C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc
Geeks can look inside to figure out how it works, use notepad! 
It will also crush the KaZaA ads.

I'm not allowed to download that file because I do not know who you are.. Matt and Brenda are afraid that you have attachted a virus in the download so they won't let me. Is there another way to fix this sluggishness?

A virus in 569 bytes? LOL I'd have to be a pretty good programmer to do that. If you check inside the ZIP you will find but one file, called HOSTS, which you can open with Notepad (it is a textfile). This file instructs the operating system to not look for the banners where they are supposed to be, but look for them on your own computer. They are not there, so the browser will skip those images.

Aet, so you know not all XP systems have the C:\WINNT file on thier computer. as i am running XP and it is still just windows with no WINNT file. anyways thanks for the file fix

The PING command is used to test network connectivity and network latency. It is a diagnostic tool, not an optimalisation (speedup) tool. If anything, malicious users use it to launch DOS attacks (Denial Of Service) with pingfloods.
But bottomline is... Ping is not a speedup tool.

Why is it that the new forum design is causing me lagjumps when scrolling??
It's so much harder to access shite on here now due to it...

i am using IE6 and i still have probs now... lagg scrolling and such, but load times are ok(heh anything is slow on 56k LOL)
