I'm very interested in hearing what everyone feels is the best Operating System. I myself have Mac OS 10.2 as my favored OS but I'm hearing some wonderful things of Linux as well. Not to forget Windows ( though I wish I could at times) and its vast amounts of software. What is your take on the OSs. Please give knowledgable opinion not useless banter about an OS you have never used or used a decade ago.
If you are looking for POSIX compliance, *nix (Linux) is the way to go. But what OS is the best depends on what you do with it. Installing Win2K Server on a gaming machine isn't good. And using Win95 as a server, well...

as an over all O, i prefer my Linux machine. Outside of gaming, which they are working on, i have yet to find something under windoze that i can't get or do under Linux. Word processing, photo editing, IMing...

supposedly, remember that word. They have claimed alot of things that have yet to be seen that it can do. From all that i have read, it is "supposed" to run windows programs as easily as window does. They claim this, but yet it falls short... Give it a few years and all, then it might prove to be what it claims, as for now...

For an instance it claims that it can run Microsoft Office, but it lacks of stability...and they only support few games. Its much better if you have both windows and linux as seperate operating systems on your pc.
Personally, I prefer playing games in Windows and everything else in Linux.

I want to change over to Linux, but its not only my computer, its the famlies. So I can't try something new without all their needs taken care of too...My dad does alot of crap in word for some club he belongs too, and i'm sure Linux has its own word program but can it be read by someone who doesnt have Linux?

When you say its not a good gaming system, does the games you can play on websites count?
Thats pretty much all the games i play except for my nintendo emulator, but i can sacrafice that.
