Was your 1gig Mac a DP System?

nope, single processor......

heavens know how a dp g4 would have tested out, let alone a g5.....

I would still have to go with what I have seen from several tests. That a 1gigMac equals out to a 1.1Gig Athlon. Though a mac 1gig is 50%faster than a Pentium and an Athlon is about 35%faster or thereabouts.

Look, I have no problems with Macs at all besides the fact that they are not widely accepted and that you CANNOT build your own system unless you frankenstien one together from old parts. I like to build systems; if and when Mac makes it to where you can build your own I would be more than happy to try one out. Until than if I want a DP system I will get a Tyan Tiger MoBo and slap a couple Athlon processors in there and go to town

I would agree with you on Intel though just not at the great rate which you suggest.

those stat may or may not be accurate, but it def. wasn't accurate for the music software tests i ran......

Yep. They certainly are. I had a chance to buy some here at the University of Utah for 400 a pop with a monitor. They also have some at the University store every once in awhile for pretty cheap. I almost got a G3 for the hell of it awhile back just because it was only $100. That is where i got my old laptop which is a Mac Powerbook. It was only 30$ when it sold for brand new in 96 for $2,000.

Don't get me wrong I could build a Mac if I wanted too. It would just be a frankenstien and none too purty

I've seen pictures of some of those "none too purty frankenstein macs" on the internet.....some people have made their cpu casing being of out cardboard and everything else.

I could make one out of an ATX Case. In a way it would be better than a regular Mac case--- because a regular mac case does not leave much room for internal drives what with thier funky cpu coolers and the locations of them

Of course you would have to drill new Mobo mounting holes or use some jerry-rigged wiring job

Now I am getting interested--- I just might give it a go--- just hard to find the spare parts for a project like that--- well I suppose I could hit up the University store

....yeah there's lots of nifty cases for under $50, some with lights and everything else.....

....before i became tight on money, i was going to build an athlon windows (for shame!) pc system from parts. i wanted it just so i can run fruity loops effeciently (a nifty windows-only soft synth and drum machine application)....it's the only program that i have found that doesn't work right for some unknown reasn on my pirated version of virtual pc........

I got a Case/Mobo deal for $99.00 for my recent computer I built. I am building a friends computer right now using a clear acrylic case--- neat looking but a bitch to work on
