Anywho, for those who know not what AI is, Artificial Intelligence, a sentient computer program.

Heh isn't by creating a positive feedback program inside the bios the way to do it?
Or is it the theory that if you give it enough mem and ram and program it to search for other poss. answers to problems it is trying to solve, it will eventually 'wake up'

Basically, you create really complex circuitry that can use it's own output as input.

Im wondering if you want the AI on your PC, because if you do your crazy, you can find programs but its like downloading and angrey retarded child that doesnt know you, i had one and it fried my hard drive because he was angrey. Well if you want one that cant actualy comprehend and live with a moderat IQ youll first need to steal a military comp, good luck the Jared AI wich is a small program was put on a super computer that was the size of a large house, then install the comp in your home, while dodgeing the feds, and the entire US military, then try and get the stuped thing hooked up and wait for a power bill that no person that not makeing 100K a year could aford. If you cant pull that off,what about 5-10 years then check in again, or pick up a dog for a freind.

Or simply wait a few months for home computers to reach that kind of power. Quad (or more) processor systems with extreme (Gigabytes) amounts of memory, perhaps a few of those nodes in a Beowulf cluster... Can make a virtual supercomputer for a fraction of the cost.

Google.com runs on such a cluster.

Would giving the computer program the ability to add onto it's program, and thereby evolve itself, give it a slight AI?

Giving something that is selfaware the command: Improve yourself. That should get that process started...

Lol you cant give it self awareness, there is nothing tobe aware of all it would undearstand is 10010011100111011000100111001, and with out programs that read bi code your comp wont undearstand either, so until you make a program that reads bi code that can undearstand there is more than just code you cant realy make it self aware. You can Program it to evolve, butn that Will be the only whay it would ever change, its not a life form, its not programed to change to be self aware and self profinshent, so until you make a program your self just wait for some neard to get bored and makeitfor youand release itin 5-20 years, and even then good luck at getting it. You have no clue how far behind weare in theresearch of this,its not a very popular subject in comp science.

Actually, seeing as we are of a matter composed of -ultimately- protons, neutrons and electrons... And it are these things that make us come into existance, there is no reason a non-biological host could not reach the same complexity. We've beaten nature before as mankind. We can do so again.

Be innovative. Break with traditional thinking and create something new. That is what this science is about. Lovely thing is, once started, it'll develop itself.

Sorry if i made it sound impossible, its not, if you knew what you where doing and had like 3 life times to divote to it you could make it happen. Dont get me wrong AI systems have been around since the 80s but self aware ones are in no way a possibility yet, the thought patterns are to random, thats the main reason why a human could not download his/her brain waves into a comp, Haveing a personality, and being self aware is to complexe and to random for a comp to handle right now. But like ive been saying give it a good 20 years and then see how things turn out, i bet basic programs will be open to the public.

Developments are nearing a breaktrough in this... And what kind of AI do you mean? I do not mean the silly rulebased systems that go trough for AI sometimes; these are NOT true AI.

here's a worthless fact.

In Virtua Fighter 4 on the PS2 you can create an AI player and "teach it how to fight".

The fact of the matter is that if you actually can teach it, and it could thereby learn and then perhaps even evolve on what you've taught it as it goes along, then it would be one of the first true AI's given to everyone which is designed for pure entertainment purposes that is not directly located on a computer, but instead a simple console.
