Who Started Black Metal......really?
EntertainmentDiscuss Who Started Black Metal......really? in the Discussions forums; There is a lot of arguments, at least where i come from, over who actually innovated Black Metal.
Venom, sure they could have, but i mean, there are many types ...
Bathory predated the Norway scene which was predated by..Dissection? I think it was Dissection..quite a few years, so in my opinion they're the first black metal band. Venom was thrash; just because they named an album black metal doesn't mean they are. They may have coind the term but I think bathory was the first to really use play the BM style.

Venom, Bathory, and Mercyful Fate inspired Mayhem. Euronymous inspired both Immortal and Darkthrone, as well as Burzum. Dissection had an original sound, but they were not really involved in the schematics. The cycle continues predictably from there, see it how you will.
I thought everyone knew this?
Now that the wind called my name,
And my star had faded now hardly a glimpse up in the empty space,
And the wise One-Eyed Great Father,
In the sky stilled my flame.
For the ones who stood me near,
And you few who were me dear,
I ask of thee to have no doubts and no fears.
For when the great clouds fill the air,
And the thunder roars from O, so far away up in the sky,
Then for sure you will know that I have reached the joyous halls up high.
Everyone does, some people just like to bring it up over and over and over and over. True, Dissection had the sound but had nothing to do with the movement/meaning. This raises another question: we talking first musically black metal band or first for everything else? Bathory had the image, Mayhem had the acts.

EXACTLY
It is a pointless question that already has an answer, which can never be definitive.
