Hmmm...I live in the subs of PA and I'm always in New Jersey as well. My boyfriend and I have had an on-going music project for about a year now. Umm...gothic/industrial/synth/ebm project. We are constantly searching for a bass guitarist and a drummer, but to no avail. We have material, tons of equipment, recording capabilities, a webpage (that will be up soon) and extremely flexible schedules. But we still have found no one....
oh, we did have three people interested.
A girl who was 17 and 4 months pregnant with twins! (like she could even HOLD a bass guitar)
Another girl who was in 62648734 other bands and wanted US to buy HER equipment so she wouldn't have to lug it around from band to band.
And....a guy who walked into the "studio", looked at my boyfriend and said "Whats the difference between analog and digital?"
Grrrr.... You don't have to be extremely talented!! Its just industrial music, its mostly synth!!! I would just like to have someone who is cool, collected, and enjoys playing. Is it too much to ask?
Has anyone else had such problems??? Or is it just a Philly thing?
Um, I don't live anywhere near there, so I can't give you regional advice. But I can say, if you and your boyfriend plan to stay in music your entire lives and stay together forever, try to get seperate bands, otherwise it's going to cause problems. Maybe you two will be different, but as a rule of thumb, don't date within the band.... Wish I could offer more direct help though... Maybe you should wait the fice months for the pregnant chick to give birth. She might not be up and running right away, but it would give you three time to practice. As for the girl in all the bands, ask her to prioritize. (Maybe buy her shit if it's good and screw her over if she's a bitch ) Tell her, pick one or two bands, then you can play with us. And keep your eyes peeled. Checkout local shows, clubs, etc. Any place a musician would hang out. I would assume you've already tried all of this, but hey. I'll tell you again

The band I'm in had a problem with their last few drummers. They were liars and shit. So, now they're stuck with me! We're going to record an album this summer. And I might be directing our video sometime within the next year. But, good luck on finding people Lilith.
As for the relationship and band thing. It works for me. Every single one of my past relationships failed because I was in a band. Its hard for a guy to be told "I can't hang out with you this weekend, I'm going to be locked away in a studio with 5 or so other guys for about a week." Now, my love is my keyboardist and if we have to work on music, its no big deal. We are still spending quality relationship time. And there is no wondering as to whether one of us is doing more then recording in that studio!!
well....I'm glad to see other people have had the same hardships finding band mates. I was getting so frustrated. Drummers seem to be the hardest to come by. If I have kids (in like 748348 years from now) I'm going to MAKE them play the drums.
Save the rock band, breed drummers!!!

Here is my boyfriend......Electribe Slave Labor Inc.
I'm a drummer. Been playin dedicatedly around 6 years or so... been toying with percussion about 9 years. Big into electronic stuff... purchased an electronic kit this past year, and I love the damn thing. I have trouble finding anybody where I go to school. I jam around and stuff, but we don't really have a scene. Once I graduate, I'm gonna hopefully get some kind of project going, because that's what I wanna do with myself (aside from grad school 'n' all that)
Well, I hope it works out for you (The relationship and the band) I can play the flute, the piano, I took vioce lessons, and I'm learning to play the bass. My favorite bassits are all women and I don't think there are enough women bassists out there so I stepped to the plate... but I haven't really had the time to practice.
