Metal, or true metal has long disapeared from the reaches of tv and common radio. Every now and then a ood metal song will pop up on k-rock(dunno how to spell it their way). Anyway it surpprises me because wherever i go, metal seems to be popular amoung the natives. So why isn't it more mainstream. Is it due to the meaning of metal, and its pride in being outcasted that has denied it mainstream coverage. Or is it simply not of common listening. I find metal to be a powerfull release, and an adrenaline pumping for of music. Not only does it have great sound appeal but it cannot be denied of its talent. To play metal requires significant hand speed, endurance, and pure skill. Solos are also a big part of it, and because the verses and choruses are of harder faster playing, the result are harder faster, mouth dropping solos. However there is some metal that does not incorperate solos, and just plays fast mish mash, while the singer grunts and mumbles, this cna be related to the gernerally new metal scene, and to me does not diserve to be called metal. Metallica, Megadeath, Pantera, Slayer, and many many more bands are what metal is about. But rearley are these bands played to listeners, this results in fewer listeners being introduced to this excellent form of music, and metal basically falls out of the playing roatation. So i ask where has all the metal gone, why do you feel that it is no longer concentrated on as much, and what can we do to bring it back?...
yes theres probaly spelling mistake after spelling mistake...so shoot me...

Simple. Because the music industry isn't based on what's good, it's based on what sells. Bands like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and so on when played on mainstream tv and radio DO sell decently, however, what sells even better is the watered down "psychiatrist-rock" mall metal sound, hence, true metal bands are pre-empted to make room for the next slipkornchamberkittiefulldevilunderground 5000.
At least in america. Hell, in europe, their mainstream, while it does have it's share of pop garbage, also features bands like Dimmu and VNV nation having some semblance of a chance at making the charts out there.
It's all about what sells where.

Then i think we need to shoot some people and make way for true metal. However even though it may not grace the air waves, metal will live on in hearts of many, especialy in Europe...

Hard music is still there, but it is umm....evolving in a way. Metal bands used to be based on bad assed guitar riffs, and now they lean more towards a heavy beat. Bands like Slipknot and Taproot are getting some media coverage, and they are definitely heavy. But i see what you're saying. I haven't heard in the past couple of years ANY bands that can compare to the guitar-metal styles of Metallica and Slayer and Megadeth, etc. just my two cents.
Teenagers today want music where the songs always come to a nice tidy conclusion. They want to see bands that are "clean and safe" besides being something that you can slowdance to at the prom. Good old fashioned metal that is based on aggression and pessimism just isn't a big seller in an era where pop culture dominates.
Well, I think that the reason that metal isnt in the mainstream is because its not suppose to be. And unless you call that Poison/Bon Jovi hair bullshit in the 80's metal it never has been. Honestly, I like it like that. Thats the way it should be. Think about it. Would you want a band like Pantera playing on the same radio stations as Britney Spears? Hell no. No offense to any of their fans but look at what the mainstream has done to the once great band Metallica. Ever since they change their sound to fit the radio standards and MTV gave them regular air play the band has begun a downward spiral which has turn them into money hungry sell outs and will eventually cause the whole band to break up which is a shame. In the 80's Metallica were huge. And the funny thing is, they got that huge with no videos on MTV and very little radio play. Living proof that metal does not belong in the mainstream.
