The singer is my friend and he informed me one day when i made the comment that punk rock sucked. He then told me that he was a EMO band. I said "What the F*** is EMO????" and he said it means EMOTION. Which IS love, remorse, hate, and stuff like that.
Spare us. Emo sounds like every other band in its genre and doesn't have much of a statement to get across. Ian MacKaye from Fugazi was a part of the band Embrace which was the revolutionary start of emocore. Still didn't appeal to me, but that's just me. They whine. I'll stop there. And although Emo holds some of the same principles of punk etc., it's more of a shadow of a brand of music.
I took an online test that told me i was 50% emo.
i love emo bois.
im also
35% punk
50% goth
my theme song is "dancing queen"
if i were a dog i'd be a chihuahua (sp?)
if i were an 80's band id be The Smiths ( i swear i didnt cheat)
If i were an Invader Zim character Id be Gir (nooo cheating)
(second time i took it i was Jhonen)
If i was a Resevior Dog i'd be Mr White
Oops..what was i posting about again?Im addicted to pointless tests ...

well thanks for the enlightenment mr. morphine. it's nice to get input from someone so knowledgable about things i'd never care to give a fuck about. i don't see the logic in measuring a bands worth by the importance of some message. alot of very good bands make music simply for the purpose of expressing emotions and ideas.
as far as sounding alike, emo is probably one of the more diverse genres out there right now. ranging from melodic piano and angelic vocals to distorted inaudible power chords and scratchy out of tune screaming.
im a minor threat and fugazi fan. i heard ian did an emo crap thing back in the day, but i never bothered to check it out. i guess i was under my bed while they were causing their "revolution" or something. i wouldn't consider emo a shadow of any other genre though. it is it's own evolved and concrete style of music. and though you can say it stemmed from punk, there's just as many emo bands that where just as heavely influenced by mod rock and grunge. i actually think there's more mod and grunge influence in emo then punk. i know there are a number of emo acts that are former members of punk bands, but the music and style is completely different. i actually think most of those punk bands grew up listening to shit like the smiths, and the cure and crap. thus all the whiney love hurts subject matter. anyways i always bullshit for to long in my posts.

To be PC, it's Ms. Morphine.
And as for the whole genre of Emo it's a bloody waste. People should have allowed grunge to die in peace and with dignity. And no matter what the different emo bands have been influenced by they still sound strangely alike and are just as bland in their style. "Wah" broke up w/ my g/f - b/f (which ever), "wah' my parents are mean, "wah" I'm broke. Emo is not musically pleasing. But that's just my insignificant opinion. And my dear punk does preach about love. Thus, if you were influenced by let's say The Cure, and you consider yourself a punk rocker, well then, you're blind. Stereotypes are blind though. Stupid, stupid. And if you really didn't give a flying fuck you wouldn't have went on as you did. Still think it's a brand of nameless music. Music- too heavy a word for it. Have a nice day though. I'm just being crotchety. Tired. Take care all.
shut up you idiot. for gods sake. yes there are stereotypes..yes you can be punk and be influenced by The Cure , Aretha Franklin. The Beegees... and Tom Waits and whoever else you frickin like.It doesn't really matter what genre you concider yourself to be "into".. because they all influence eachother. Emo is just another branch on a huge fucking tree of music styles...you may prefer one to another but to each their own.
i was happy in the haze of a drunken hour........but heaven knows im miserable now
personally, i think that calling "emo music" emo doesn't make much sense since most of the music out there is emotional in some way. but whatever. i like it. veronica. dashboard confessional. the get up kids. the anniversary. the new amsterdams. etc etc. not all of it is whiney or whatever you want to call it.
written signed off in the obituary.
what happened to us?
where's your anger, where's your fucking rage?
watered down senses lost.
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. Didn't mean to if i have, just that I know too many people who identify with 'emo' and don't even udnerstand what the lyrics are tryingto get across. And the music just not my thing. And yes, each to his/ her own.
I've only head Dashboard Confessional , that new song they have out there. Something about "Screaming Infidelities" And I don't really like it.....That dude is wierd. He wants to be all hard? with those tattos he has but he is so sweet and nice looking wtf, someone punch that bastard!!!! LOL :p
