I go to this punk club in Berkeley sometimes, and one time while breathing in dry cigarette smoke and licking sweat unintentionally off stranger's shoulders, it occured to me that I can't find any musical value in punk, but I keep coming back, because something about me loves it. Which brings me to the subject at hand...

Is punk's entire appeal not just the concept of guys sweating, screaming obscenities, and throwing their bodies passionately against every fucking thing they can get their libidos on?

I think it had more to do with poor kids in england who were sick of the stodgy stiff-upper-lip majority of their homeland and the ideals they embraced, and punk music being their sort of insurgence, however, like most pure things, the sound and look of it was prostituted for easy cash. Brand new clothes with safety pins in them? plaid pants with pre-sewn patches? give me a break...

Oh I agree, I know the attitude of it, and how it started. What it is now though, in my experience, is drunk teenaged boys yelling "fight the system". There are good sides too, a defiance of government, originality, and stuff like that. But they can all be corrupted by the people who just want attention. But that's true for everything.
