I think it had more to do with poor kids in england who were sick of the stodgy stiff-upper-lip majority of their homeland and the ideals they embraced, and punk music being their sort of insurgence, however, like most pure things, the sound and look of it was prostituted for easy cash. Brand new clothes with safety pins in them? plaid pants with pre-sewn patches? give me a break...
