It seems that we have a strong following towards the metal genres and some towards others but basically i think the "ALTERNATIVE" genre is both under represented here and misrepresented overall.
i ask you all to get together and post truely alternative bands that cannot be properly catergorised...in your opinions of course

Bands i'd consider make the list:

Placebo
Tea Party
Muse
Radiohead (just because they dont do ANYTHING normally...)
VAST

ah, but you just admit that alternative has become a catchall phrase for pop now... i walked into my local conglomomuscistore and only found the likes of Nelly Furtado, Smash Mouth, and Sugar Ray... no Portishead, no Beck, no NIN... i had to go searching in techno for the first, IMPORTS for the second and metal for the third...

go figure...

now no arguements about Portishead and some of the other shit that has ended up on the alternative charts (smash mouth, sugar ray - or my person nemesis group Crazytown) But NIN isn't really as much alt as it is industrial.....

industrial is frankly in style and attitude closer to metal than it is alternate.....

but then again anything that doesn't make a Pepsi Top 40 or Coca Cola Top 40 in the top 30 or so but outsells most of the other shit is said to be Alternate - TooL, great band they are, are still more metalish than alt but i'll let that one go since lateralus is just so fucking broad in its sound and just goddam cool in most of it.
