New goth band on the prowl - Lilac Ambush

Allow me to introduce you to a band that's being hailed as "the second coming of Joy Division". No, I'm not kidding; there really is such band - and they're not going to be a best-kept secret for much longer.

Imagine if there was a 5-piece on the scene drawing comparisons akin to a British 80's new wave band, with a hint of gothic tendencies, but they weren't British, this is not the 1980's, and it's not politically correct to say "new wave" anymore.

Billing themselves as "dark pop" or "dark synthpop", but infused with a rock sensibility, Lilac Ambush has an all-original sound with hints of influence from Joy Division and Soft Cell (although the young 'uns might swear they hear hints of Interpol in there as well). Well this is the reason that this is the one forum I do not delete this type of "spam" post, as the odd time, it is just promoting, and we could all use some new music to listen to. You must understand though, that most ppl who make these kind of posts are just spammers, and make the one post and vanish. first off - he's right, we get peeps in here at least once a week bein' all "CHECK THIS BAND OUT, CHECK MY BAND OUT, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH" and 90% of the time....they suck balls!!!!!

you are the first to actually come back after makin' a "CHECK THIS BAND OUT" thread.....so itz unusual.....still, this is DF, and n00bs such as yourself, especially with starting a "check out this band" thread, were just beggin' to be flamed.......not your typical way to introduce yourself....

and for the most part, itz best to get acquainted with us before you go around posting a band you're affiliated with for us to check out.....if a regular here says "hey, check out my band," more than likely we will....but as you can see, the only peeps here who seem to have taken an interest in your thread is mr. mod ONE, and annoying, yet loveable, always insane, cute and cuddly, the one and only SIXXXER......

also, since i'm on dial-up (kill me now) i can't really DL music, but i would still imagine that your band (i'm assuming itz your band) is no different than what we normally get here......but, i dunno.....you could be very good.....nonetheless, just the way you came across, and this being your first thread, i'm prolly not gonna even bother.....that an "dark pop" just doesn't sound like my cup o' tea.....i'm more akin to death metal, black metal, some gothic metal, even ethereal and atmospheric metal....

as for being in a band.....as a matter of fact i am in one, and we just did a demo last week.......i've been in bands since i was 17....i'm now 23......and i've gone from instrument to instrument......currently i'm a drummer....been playing percussion since i was 9 (marching band, concert band, solo and ensemble contests, jazz band, etc)....guitar since 16, bass since 17 (jazz band)......i also dabble on the piano and violin.....but this is my first "rock" band as a drummer though.......itz an interesting mix.....ethereal/jam/dark/suicidal, with varying time signatures and poetic lyrics......

so all in all, when it comes to music, I RULE!!!!!! yay!!!!!

not yet....we just did our demo.....but we still have yet to have a full set list....but we are workin' on a website......

i've been in recording studios before....when i was 18 i think, my first band recorded an album.....kinda metal/punk/ballads.....

but yeah, i'm a music whore.......i was gonna major in music, but went the writer and philosopher route instead.....

probably better off too, with the music of today.

i enjoy it....i'd much rather do sumtin' with writing, but if i can make money doin' music, so be it......

I was a music major for my first semester of college...then switched to European History with a minor in Archaeology (don't ask!) but I, too, have been performing since I was a teenager. I noticed that you mentioned a great affinity for metal. I like *some* European metal bands (Moonspell, Sentenced, etc.) and I myself was the vocalist for a gothic-metal outfit called Gallows Hill in the late 90's/early 2000.

Lilac Ambush is not "my" band per se; I just work with them in a managerial and promotions capacity. I work with many other bands in the New England underground scene as well, but they are, by far, the one with the most commercial potential. This is pretty much why the term "dark pop" gets tossed around - using "goth" might alienate non-goth constituency, and "pop" - well, if this was 1984, some label specializing in British new wave would sign them so fast they wouldn't know what hit 'em (yes, they have a bit of a retro 80's sound

So, yea...where are my manners? I should have introduced myself. I'm Anderson Mar, 27/F, underground band promoter and founder of the New England Darksidewalkers empire, and based out of Boston, MA. Currently serving as vocalist for the local band Strangeways, and running a monthly "darker alternative" music showcase ("Dark Sky") at a club in suburban Boston.

I downloaded a couple of the tracks and they sound like they are trying too hard to sound like they are English and it's still the Eighties.
