Um...you can't just create a poll with names of a few bands on it. You'd need to have everyone's opinion, not a poll. Like, personally, I'd say Led Zeppelin.

this is a disgrace to the forum. i can't believe that on a website made for the dark and tragic that someone would claim the rolling stones is the best band ever. I just wish mick jagger would hurry up, drying up and die. He's so bloody ugly. and you'd think that after the amount of chemicals that man has used in his life he'd have keeled over by now.

actually, i was pleasantly surprised to find someone on darkforums openly admitting to liking great RAWK & ROLL for once (as opposed to the standard wristslasher anthem-machines so many people disgrace their turntab- er... CD players... with - Sisters of Mercy, anyone?) ...don't get me wrong, i luuuv Joy Division, but they're not better than the Stones or Led Zep.

Greatest Band shouldn't just be based on personal opinion...
I say, it should be based on sales, number of hits, top charting, what they've done to music itself, etc.

Re: Stones and Beatles: hear, hear! where would rock and roll be if not for these two seminal bands? and let's not forget that they both were the first (along with Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Iron Butterfly, and The Doors (etc.)) to do dark, heavy music ("Helter Skelter," "Sympathy For the Devil") when everyone else was doing songs about fuckin' daisies and love beads!

I'm 19 and my mother is 47... And I know more about Classic Rock than she does. :p "Stairway to Heaven" came on the radio, and I asked her to tell me who it was (I do this...quiz my mom and all), and she said it was PINK FLOYD!!! I love Pink Floyd through and through, but she thought Led Zepplin was Pink Floyd!!! Oh! I almost bloody died when she said that! Aaaah, but I can't blame her... She was one of those "Daisy and Love Beads" people. Anyways... I just take music too seriously sometimes.

yeah, but they're not famous because they're talented, they're famous because they're a *novelty* i know of other chick bands who are doing the same type of things as kittie accept they're doing it *well* and yet i don't see them on mtv....like otep for example, though the band isn't all female the lead singer is, and when she screams it doesn't sound like a dog with hernia, it actually sounds natural...

although i really shouldn't preach and criticize, i do believe in to each his/her own so if you wanna like kittie, go ahead, but please don't degrade a poll as voting for them as THE BEST BAND EVER...

Oh my! What a thread... and some (really) funny replies! I have to agree, this cannot possibly a poll, I mean people's tastes are just too diverse... So rather silly idea, afraid to say....
There are too many excellent bands, new and old to simply narrow it down to -the- best ever... But yes..... Sister of Mercy, The Smiths, Joy Division, Dreadful Shadows, Swans, Die or Dance, The Cult, The Cure, Black Sabbath, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Young Gods, New Model Army, Nick Cave and the Badseeds, KMFDM, Swamp Terrorist, Fear Factory... and and and.... the list can actually be endless really. I would have to say that each and every band I have in my collection would have to be on this list and that would be ridiculous to post! But oh yes Skinny Puppy of course! And Front242, Front Line Assembly..... oh wait I decided not to list anymore....
