Ok, I am seriious withdrawel from lack of good music. Last night I thought I would turn on the radio (for the first time in about a year) and do you know what I heard? Cold, Disturbed, Korn, Limp dickzit, and some other jerkoff bands. I am seriously sick of this shit.
I know yall are the trendy people who only listen to "cutting-edge" music.....fuck that. Give me some Greatfull Dead or some Queen or Petty or Floyd and I will be happy. I have come to the conclusion that music is dead and only capitolist corporations remain. This is fucking weak.....I cant name one song that has come out in the last 10 years that will still be around in the next 10 years.
There are some good bands from the 90's.....but nothing that will last. Fuck it, music today pretty much sucks ass.

Jamie.....well I suppose I am greatfull for that. Quote: Originally posted by (SIC)boy hey just becuz there good enough to be a main stream band doesnt mean you gotta hate them those bands make some preety kool music sometimes yes they can suck but for the most part there preety kool so whatever dude! | (sic)boy....your a fucking retard. There are no bands that play on the radio that are worth listening to. Tool is the closest thing to tolerable. I dont hate them becuase they are mainstream, although that helps....I hate them becuase they are fucking corporations making billions of dollars from splurting old riffs and tired cliched lyrics. And btw you dont have to be good to go mainstream......(ie. that song "stupify" - thats mainstream and its fucking retarded.) I could go on and on about this but I wont. Dont even try to tell me that any bands from the last decade can even hold a candle to the music of the late 60's to the late 80's.
In conclusion: Music has lost its soul.

Maybe you don't think anything in the 90's is good, but the "metal community" and just about every other "music community" has fond memories of nearly every year. There is good music that isn't on the radio and if you haven't found any it's your fault, not ours, so quit complaining.

what the fuck are you smoking, all that the 90's have to show are one hit wonders and people who just copy the styles of the great rockers before them. The only progression in rock and metal is the fussion of rap into it and that was done long ago by Aerosmith and Run DMC. If you are so sure of your arguement then name one rock or metal band that is original or has done something that hasent been done before. Its fucking impossible......

At the Gates is given credit by most for fusing melody with death metal. Every decade has one hit wonders, I suggest you not look to the mainstream lest you only be disappointed.

ok, you got one.....
my point is that, almost everything that has been done in the last 10 years has been around alot longer then that. There are a few good bands around, but the majority of them have been around alot longer then 10 years. Newayz I gotta go.............later

You might as well complain about how Elvis created rock and rool and everyone copied. I don't know about many genres, but I can vouche for what I do know. Death metal and black metal are almost primarily styles of the 90's. Two new genres in a decade isn't too shabby and I'm sure other people knw a lot of other new styles that came about in the 90's.

mainstream music usually sucks. i loved the early 90's to fukin death. so many subcultures surrounding music that were awsome.
i could name off bands like nothing, i could fill this e-page and then some. but i wouldn't expect for there to be too many major label bands on it. music is always at it's best in underground scenes. if your looking for it in mainstream music your gonna keep finding crap. the music industry has been mass marketing for like 40 plus years now, it knows how to do what it wants, and that is make money. your mainstream music scene is never going to be like it use too. that's why there's the underground

i'm pissed...i think this manifesto of osiris dude needs to appreciate all eras of music there are...i'm a young guy and i love the metal of today...shit like korn, papa roach, taproot, mudvayne, slipknot, static x, marilyn manson, rammstein, the deftones, metallica, coal chamber, orgy, godsmack, powerman 5000, and the list goes on and on...it's great shit...i also like some of the 80s metal and quite a bit of 70s metal...if you call yourself a music fan you have to appreciate the music of every era...if you don't you're not a real fan of music...you're just a closed minded person who likes to bitch...just like manifesto of osiris...if someone doesn't like the way i think they can just obey what my signature says

For every one of those packaged bands I assure you there is at least one band who sounds similar but better. The only problem is you can't just take a walk down to Sam Goody and pull their cd off the top 10 rack so you'll actually have to do some work.

I hate it when I goto sam goody or tower records or something like that and I can't find my bands. Grrr. There are always three sections. Pop, Rap/R&B, and New Age. Now we all know that bands like Old Man's Child, Dimmu Borgir, and Borknager aren't rap/r&b. And we all know that they aren't New Age or pop, but guess where they put them under anyway? Thats right, they put those bands under pop and if you are lucky when you go and look under pop you might actualy find a cd by DM, OMC, and Bork. I am going mad trying to find Stormblast by Dimmu Borgir but, noooooo, they only "carry the most recent cds of bands that aren't that well known". This is why I have to burn stormblast off napster. Oneday I hope to actualy find DM's Stormblast in a store. It's a pain in the butt to burn cds and besides I would really like to buy the cd. It's not the same burning a cd. I would rather give my money to the bands I love than stealing it. But if this is what i'm reduced to...oh well. I think i'll stop now...meep.

Fucking cunt, Im not closed minded....im real. Fuck mainstream music, $50 for a teeshirt $100 for decent concert tickets $20 for a fucking CD. Popular music consists of heartless lyrics and recycled riffs.
Scotti - as far as Elvis being the only original, thats true to an extent however before 1992 there was always a progression, there has been no significant changes in rock since Bowie and Cooper. People arent blazing their own trail anymore, they riding the fucking coat tails of the legends.
Bowie ~> Manson, Reznor, Coal Chamber, Korn and every other "dark" band
Greatfull Dead, Tom Petty ~> almost any pop/rock hybrids (ie, matchbox 20, 3E
Floyd ~> new age, trance, techno, rave, and some rock/dance this particular genre has improved some)
Beatles, Monkeys, Beach Boys ~> boy bands (n*synce)
Diana Ross/Supremes ~> girl bands

manifesto, while i usually agree with your ideals, i must disagree with parts of your "progression" chart... floyed led to techno? i think most techno dance acts owe more to the likes of kraftwerk, but i really could give a shit about techno.
manson, reznor AND korn came from bowie? i'd like a little more in depth explanation about that one... i'll give you manson, but reznor is definately more a descendant of ministry and skinny puppy. though reznor digs bowie enough to take him on tour with him, i wouldn't say that reznor's sound came from bowie any. korn is just watered down hardcore/metal, which could have come from anywhere.
just my opinion Help Us Make A Difference!

First let me say that I am not only talking about style of music, but also public image and type of music.
Im saying that bowie was the first true dark rocker and he took shock rock to a whole new level. Bands such as mentioned above have stolen his ideas and image. not nescesarraly the sound of the music but everything that appeals to the masses.
Floyd was the psychodelic music of the day, its not the music itself that directly progressed into techno...its that techno is todays equivelent.
anyway this is just my opinion.
