All,

To coincide with the start of the new series of Doctor Who and to reflect the previous series, the band I play in (The Red List ) have written and recorded an indie track based on the Doctor.

The lyrics and premise of the track is based around his loneliness; both from the perspective of being the last timelord and also from losing someone he cared about (ie. Rose).

There's also a Kylie link in there too.

I would appreciate all your comments / feedback, whether good, bad or indifferent.

Forget I said anything.

Now don't get me wrong; I love Doctor Who. However, outside of watching the show and enjoying it for what it is, I think the rest is just a bit excessive, not to mention geeky.

Oh, and just to keep the thread on-topic:

The song itself isn't half bad, it just seems...narrow. A song conveying the Doctor's loneliness? Sure, sounds great. Isolation and loneliness are fundamental psychological fears, great fodder for songwriting. However, once it's tied down to being just the Doctor's deal, effectively shutting out non-fans from the emotional level, because they're "out of the loop" and missing most of the references, the song becomes diminished. There's a capacity for a wider audience that gets completely passed up for the sake of being fanboys.

I would however have to disagree with saying it's tied down to the Doctor's deal. It describes his loneliness from the perspective of being one-of-a-kind, unique, isolated, etc... as in the last timelord and also describes his emotion for losing a loved one. Two very common and much experienced situations. Something that probably most people can relate to.

Films, tv series, soaps, music all immerse people in stories or situations that may well have been the writer's perspective / experience at the time and even when it's based on pure fiction more-often-than not allow the viewer to relate to it in someway.

I'm slightly perplexed as to how you can have come to this conclusion as the feedback I've had so far has been completely the opposite. However we're all entitled to our own opinion and if you can't relate to the lyrics or simply don't like it then that's fine. Life would be dull if we all liked the same things.
