Once I was listening to Dimmu Borgir, and the first thing I heard was this great melancholic voice and some freaky silent sounds...great stuff was my fist impression. Of course i knew that wasn't gonna last long, and i was right cause of all a sudden I hear heavy fucked up guitars...conclusion: Dimmu Borgir sucks. So I went to look for bands who don't use that fucking heavy guitar bullshit. And I came up with some great bands I wanna share with you, bands that make extremely dark, slow and atmospheric music. This is very small portion of the stuff i found:
-Ordo Equilibrio: "The triumph of Light...and thy 13 shadows..."blablabla, great fucking album though.
-Amon: "El Khela"...ooouuu baby find this now!
-Brighter Death Now: "The Slaughterhouse"...amazing
-Megaptera: "Curse of the scarecrow"...classic? I think so
-Profane Grace: "Endless graves of serenity" also great
Other bands you might wanna look for are Third Eye Foundation (OUTROCK!! hhhhmmm) especially their cd's Semtex and Little Lost Soul, some of Mogwai's work like Young Team or Kicking a dead pig, Köhn, everything by the Acid Mother Temple label, Gate, Aphex Twin can be nice too sometimes like his Classics cd, Loopfish if you can find'm (good luck cause you probably won't)...in any case lots of good music to find if you just look a little better.

...you're aware that your name is Steppenwolf, right? When people talk of the freedom of writing, speaking or thinking I cannot choose but laugh. No such thing ever existed. No such thing now exists; but I hope it will exist. But it must be hundreds of years after you and I shall write and speak no more.

Also, if you must like a band that someone else may have heard of, it's best to dismiss all known releases for some backcatalogue item that few people has.

look prick, i'm sorry if i insulted your precious Dimmu, no in fact i'm not sorry, i take it back, they SUCK, it's my opinion and you don't have to fucking share it. and the fact that those bands i named aren't well known at all doesn't have anything to do with me being pretentious...it's just music i like and i'm sorry that that kind of music doesn't have any well known bands that i wouldn't mention so i could fit your little image of me...
Just wanted to share some bands man, lighten up...and yes they are good, and the fact i found these bands doesn't tell shit about me does it? I mean i didn't make the fucking music so i'm not gonna be fucking pretentious about it! the bands get the credit NOT ME, i just wanted other people to get to know them, in case they didn't know'm yet. Fuck you asshole, and your pathetic point of view

I realize now that after reading my first article again, that there were some things that could have been mistaken but i assure you it wasn't my intention. When i talked about loopfish and the fact that it's gonna be difficult finding them, i didn't mean cause you people are too ignorant or whatever, i meant because they don't have a cd and i just luckily happened to stumble upon them and had to order a cassette via via via...and i do like guitars, just not heavy metal ones ok? can't someone have an opinion these days...
and you know where you can stick that Jesus Christ...

No offense but I don't think Jesus dying on a cross was part of the Great Church Masterplan to keep the ever expanding population under control.
I have great trouble understanding what's wrong with Jesus Christ from your point of vieww, but I'm guessing this is the wrong forum to post that in. If you want dark music, depending on how atmospheric you want to go, there's a few things that you should get.
"Karma" by Delerium. It's a really good album, kinda new-agey, but still something that's been there to give me some inspiration in writing.
"Bath Water Flowers" by Darling Violetta; I really like this band, but it's not as dark as some people would like it to be. DV isn't very goth, but they're still incredible.
"Wish" by The Cure - Not sure if any of you -don't- have this one. Heh.
"Pornography" by The Cure - Very dark. Very old, too, alot different than their new stuff. But if you don't have this, I recommend it.
"Music From the Succubus Club," this is actually a compilation of goth and darkwave, it's supposed to be a soundtrack to Vampire: The Masquerade (not the computer game, the pencil-paper RPG). It has Belle Morte on it, Kristeen Young, Seraphim Shock and various others, including Nosferatu. Happy. It's very good, though.
"Nocturnal Emissions" Alien Sex Fiend. Woo!
And, considering Jesus Christ.. Christianity is a very odd religion. It's also one of those things that I think invented the term "Don't believe everything you hear." The bible's been copied over and over again, maybe there wasn't even a Jesus. I don't really believe in anything, though, and it's not like I can force my opinion on anyone. Ahem. Thoughts, feelings, cold.
I love it when Darkling touches my forehead.

wulf | Whoever despises heavy guitars cannot appreciate music...
Steppenwolf, go ahead and listen to cheesy 'oh I am so sad' keyboard melodies, and let the people who KNOW about music appreciate it...There are so many excellent hard rock/metal bands, that can express a dark and sad feeling with powerful riffs instead of following the easy way of performing a simple keyboard nonsense, accompanied with some backing female vocals...go ahead and listen to Trail of Tears, you will love them...

wulf | I could be wrong because I know I have been before but didn't you just list bands you like. So are you trying to act cooler by doing so? Since you said that is why people do such things. Lastly play the guitar takes a lot of work and talent(talent I don't have.... hehehehe I suck) Something you probley could never do. Oh well I am go on once more. I just wanted to ask you if you think you are cooler now?
By the way
Alliance I love you!!!! Dimmu Borgir really do suck Only in the dark can we remove our masks and see the true beauty that lays within the grave faces.

All right. You can say stuff about Dimmu because a lot of people in the black metal scene think they are gay too. But do not dare say anything bad about Emperor. Ihsahn from Emperor compose any music that these faggy goth or darkwave bands produce. And he can do it a lot better. Just listen to "Opus A Satana" or the new 'Thall Shalt Suffer.' He can do that, and he can also scream like a banshee from the deepests pits of hell, but still sing operatic. Let's see the Cure do that. I know this was about Dimmu Borgir, but I see it as a general attack on black metal. When winter first begins to bite
and stones crack in the frosty night
when pools are black and trees are bare
'tis evil in the wild to fare
