complicated music
EntertainmentDiscuss complicated music in the Discussions forums; a question for musicians everywhere:
what is the most difficult song you've ever played or that you would like to play?...
well so far of all the songs ive drummed,
it'd have to be Day-Glo by Day-Glo. the drumming for i am still working on but its the hardest ive done so far.
either that or pennywise's alien. its kinda hard to do.
there is a song for all accused that i play which is in 9 and 6 but thats not too hard.
Hmmm...the most difficult song on guitar, for me, is the Buckethead/Primus "Ballad of Buckethead"...Ive gotten the solo done right like 1 in 70 tries, but luckily it sounds okay if you just attempt it. For bass it's either DMV or (duh) tommy the cat by Primus or Classical Thump by Victor wooten but I've gotten both down alright for the most part. And for drums? Damn near anything.

aren't you glad i introduced you to wooten? *grins*
aw come on skorpion, challenging songs are fun as all hell once you master em, i still remember a few on piano that make people's jaws drop a bit when i can play em right, that's when i can play em right though...
how do you expect to get better if you don't start learning harder pieces? (unless that's not what you want ofcourse)
I've reached my plateau, I'm perfectly content with metallica solos, children of bodom leads and most primus. To go any further would require me to play my instrument 6-8 hours a day like my friend aaron does =/

"Ticks & Leeches" by Tool has a hard drum part, in some ways. The footwork in certain areas is the only real tough part for me, though the time signature isn't as crazy as some Tool songs are.
As far as speed goes, there are some Dimmu Borgir and some Strapping Young Lad songs that are completely ridiculous, and I don't know how I'll ever play them. I'm gonna try, though.
*shrug* I can play most of what I listen to, which I suppose is cool. I don't listen to much jazz, though, and I know I can't play a lot of that stuff.
True, challenging songs are fun... but I don't know... I've taught myself guitar and piano (my first real guitar lesson is on Sunday), and so since I've taught myself, I don't think I'm ready to take on something complex.
Piano I've learnt by ear, so if you give me a "challenging" piece, I might be able to duplicate it after listening to it a few times.
if you're taking lessons i seriously doubt you won't graduate on to more challenging pieces. i've never heard of an instructor letting a student do that.
