I think the best album of 2001 was Taproot's "Gift"

i admit..taproot did have a good album...but im not sure if they were the best...but if not..close up there.

really the only CD i like that was put out this year that i've heard... this was kind of a crappy year for music if you ask me... oh yeah, i liked dope's new cd...still not the best though

(SoaD was a great CD, but Tool was infinatly better. I'd say it runs a second, but a distant second.)

aw, but tool's Aenema was a better CD as far as variations go, lateralus was just too...consistant through out the whole thing, it stayed at one level, it's not a cd i would just sit and listen to like aenema, it's more like background music....
it was one of the better releases, justnot as far as my tool standards go

Lateralus was not first, by far. I love Tool, and I love their shit, but that cd was disapointing, even the DVD remix cd thing was better (can't recall the name right now). But anyways, I have no clue when it came out, but Spineshank~Asthamtic I belive it is. I know they aren't a big band and all, buts its a cd I can listen to over and over. I can buy a cd, and listen to it strait for about two months before I shelve it for a good year, like I did with SOAD, Tool, APC, and Rammstein. Spineshank though, they are just music that is great to listen to when sitting, walking, driving, doing work, sleeping, everything. Just my opinion though. And once again, I love TOOL.

Tool - Lateralus


Though marginally uniform throughout, it is often ridiculed because it is not grasped, much like Kid A was when it first came out. It is not suitable for one listen only; look deeper than that. Though I dig Aenima more, no other album in 2001 broke the kind of ground that Lateralus did. Overall, this year in music was not very creative (damn you, Weezer).

I must also give props to SOAD and Aphex Twin, both of whom did a hell of a good job with their 2001 albums. Strangely refreshing works.

P.S. Taproot's "Gift" came out in 2000, not 2001.
