So who here plays an instrument or something?

I play different sorts of things, but what I am most obsessed with his guitar.

Anybody else play guitar?
I used to be all electric, but I love playing the acoustic now.

well, i've played a few things. can't play em all now like i used to though.

piano,
cello,
violin,
all percussion (orchestral)
all percussion (latin)
drum kit is mosly what i've played over the years. played in many bands, gigged around alot.

can also do sampling, cutting, mixing, all that electrical stuff. I've dabbled a tiny bit with VJing but don't own a digital video camera so i've never taken it further and bought my own kit and things.

17 yrs percussionist, 10 yrs bassist and guitarist. And I can read music too . . . SCORE! I float around a bit, I just love learning new techniques. Last year I was obsessed with slap/pop and raking and extreme finger tapping (as if it were piano) on the bass. But now, I'm back to percussion, learning all the various feet tricks and floating techniques with the hands. In fact, I have an audition tonight for a band . . . so we'll see how it goes.

But yes, having the ability to play an instrument is definately one of the coolest things I can say I have in my life.

Bass is fun to play, you can do things with it you cant with a guitar, like the slap/pop. However it goes the other way around too, theres sounds you can make with a guitar that you cant with bass. Playing both is very fun.

Making your own music is a great feeling.

I used to play keys/piano many moons ago as well as do vocals but I gave the whole band thing up along time ago. I was a tech for DN4 out of San Jose and played live at Club X wayyyyyy back in the day.
I do still screw around with loops and sounds using Sony Acid Studio but my knack for wringing out cool sounds using the black keys only has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

If you want to try something really fun on guitar, try only finger tapping exercises (not van halen style) but actual finger movements (like it was a piano) . . . then try and do polyrhythms with your hands. That's quite difficult, but fun if you can do it.

Check this kid out to see what I'm talking about . . . of course, he had two guitars, but you can do the basics with only one. I can play Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata on the bass in that same vein of playing.

Now that is cool. Im defiantly gonna try that out.

At the moment, I'm learning a lot of spanish type of songs. I just love the way it sounds.
Its interesting to play, because with spanish type rhythms its a lot about the change in speed when you play. Kinda hard to explain.

haha. i've seen that guy play alot of things. not fur elise though.

it's quite awesome i used to pee around on my friends guitar doing that kinda thing. just laying it on my lap, and tapping out songs.

i always wanted to have a go on a lap steel or a pedal steel. perhaps even a double. sexy...

I used to use guitar pedals to enhance my vocals all the time. Run your voice through a chorus and reverb than crunch it real good and you can get some awesome stuff going on I never could get a handle on the guitar....

My advice, COMMIT TO IT. Learn how to play that thing. Learning how to play an instrument is... well its just awesome.

Thanks, it is pretty sweet so far, as for staying committed, so long as I still have lessons, I should be good.
