I didn't think there could be a worse writer than Anne Rice until I read Poppy Z. Brite. Anne Rice is pretentious, annoying, and gets bogged down in details at the expense of the plot. P Z. Brite is all of the above plus reading her stuff just makes me think she's trying too hard to make her readers cringe. I think the descriptive language is sometimes predictable and tiresome. Maybe i'm too hard to please?  The only book i quite liked was Lost Souls. |
oooh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! interesting.........i never fully read an anne rice novel, only 3/4ths of interview, which i didn't enjoy mainly since i hate the fucking movie.........i don't know if i hate poppy worse, but excellent point.......she is definately a "shock-value" writer (which i must confess, so am i)........however, i do enjoy her graphic scenes, but i dunno, they just don't scream evil to me.....not like ellis' American Psycho..........but yeah, her stories do have a bit of predictability within them...........and just too damn much homo-erotica
