The question wasn't philosophical because it has a blatantly obvious answer. The purpose is to share deals with other forum members and is part of the effort to enhance a feeling of community here. Your last sentence makes no sense. "That's what a potential real explanation" isn't a complete sentence.

Correction made. Since you want to play dense...how was it decided that this forum be made over say a sports forum, or a dancing forum? How does sharing deals with people enhance community more than a forum that leads to discussion? Or did I miss the massive amounts of discussion in this packed forum?

Not every forum is about discussion, The Playground, Neverending Story and Photography aren't. However, i understand what you're saying. I posted in the lair that i thought Hot Deals would be better of as a Subforum in Web Links, but it was ignored.
