i'm sure most of you have heard about the Manhatten Project and maybe some of you have heard of the Philladelphia Story as well which goes with the Manhatten Project ...here's the PS in a nutshell ..if i'm missing anything or wrong on anything please clarify for me.

The government said it had made a machine that could make something invisable. they put it on a ship that was going out to kill ..some other ship. now supposively when they turned the machine on it disappeared for about 10 minutes and when it reappeared the men on the ship were entangled in with the metal everything was a big mess and very few survived. Some old guy came out a few years ago and said that he was on the ship and the ship did a time-warp to this year and that there will be a big electrical surge from it and that is how we will know its true and then he dies (of course). The day he said it was going to happen was the day the lights went out on the east coast. and they still haven't come out with a real reason behind it (or i haven't heard one) besides "someone must have pushed the wrong button ..oops".

So, tell me what you think of this.

As far as I'm aware, the "Manhatten Project" was a term applied to many research projects conducted by the US Military, usually involving or relating to discovery's which cumulated in the creation of the Hydrogen Atomic bomb.

I know the movie/story which your refering to Apathetress,
but I believe this was just one of (many) research projects which created/used in the main project, of developing the bomb.

As to the story, I believe it was closer to:
The governemnt was conducting research on ways to "hide" (or make invisable)
ships to enemy radar (remembering that Radar itself was fairly new technology).

Anyway, so they (apparently) created a device, which would be installed on the Ship, and somehow make it "invisable" to rader. Oh.. and obviously this device was nuclear based fission technology, hence its involvement as part of the overall Manhattan Project.
The story goes that something went "wrong" (being the operative word), the entire ship physically disappeared - and then re-appeared, some time later, in an entirelly different location (several hundred km's away).
As to the crew... in the story I remember, they all disapeared, never seen again, and the entire project was immediately classified.

Short update...
Microwave radar, was developed in the US under the Manahattan Project, along with the proximity fuse

The ship remained in the Mediterranean until it returned with Convoy GUS-25 to Hampton Roads on 17 January 1944. The Archives has a letter from Lieutenant Junior Grade William S. Dodge, USNR, (Ret.), the Master of Andrew Furuseth in 1943, categorically denying that he or his crew observed any unusual event while in Norfolk. Eldridge and Andrew Furuseth were not even in Norfolk at the same time.

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has stated that the use of force fields to make a ship and her crew invisible does not conform to known physical laws. ONR also claims that Dr. Albert Einstein's Unified Field Theory was never completed. During 1943-1944, Einstein was a part-time consultant with the Navy's Bureau of Ordnance, undertaking theoretical research on explosives and explosions. There is no indication that Einstein was involved in research relevant to invisibility or to teleportation. ONR's information sheet on the Philadelphia Experiment is attached.

The Philadelphia Experiment has also been called "Project Rainbow." A comprehensive search of the Archives has failed to identify records of a Project Rainbow relating to teleportation or making a ship disappear. In the 1940s, the code name RAINBOW was used to refer to the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis. The RAINBOW plans were the war plans to defeat Italy, Germany and Japan. RAINBOW V, the plan in effect on 7 December 1941 when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, was the plan the U.S. used to fight the Axis powers.

Some researchers have erroneously concluded that degaussing has a connection with making an object invisible. Degaussing is a process in which a system of electrical cables are installed around the circumference of ship's hull, running from bow to stern on both sides. A measured electrical current is passed through these cables to cancel out the ship's magnetic field. Degaussing equipment was installed in the hull of Navy ships and could be turned on whenever the ship was in waters that might contain magnetic mines, usually shallow waters in combat areas. It could be said that degaussing, correctly done, makes a ship "invisible" to the sensors of magnetic mines, but the ship remains visible to the human eye, radar, and underwater listening devices.

After many years of searching, the staff of the Operational Archives and independent researchers have not located any official documents that support the assertion that an invisibility or teleportation experiment involving a Navy ship occurred at Philadelphia or any other location.

So my correction... the experiement was actually (if it existed), an attempt to make the ship 'electonically' "invisible" to magnetic mines - and not the human eye or radar (which was developed under the Manhattan Project).
Rather simple theory as well... reversing the polarity of the hull.

I know they've started doing something similar with US Tanks...
Creating (or possibly) inverting the polarity of the Tank Hull, to make it a reverse polarity of shells fired at it. Apparently helps with the armour strength, by (magnetically) helping to repell the force of the explosion.

I will say one thing.. it allegaldly occured in 1943.. and we are in 2003 ?!
but otherwise Id have to say more a conspiracy.

Either way, I'm curious as to where or how this 'story' of the vanishing ship, emerged from... because I don't believe it was Hollywood in this instance..

oh, and I prefer to just blame the blackout on Bush -and well most of America's problems, for that matter.. I just reckon that he makes a good scapegoat; even when its not his fault.

I heard it from my dad who heard it on some weird talk-show he listens to in the morning. I was talking to someone else and they said they remember the guy who came out saying he was on the ship and whatnot, but who knows, right?

I like the people meshed in with the metal more than them just disappearing.
