As i was watching a rerun of a show running on american TV, I heard the words "as the last remaining suprepower" It occured to me that we( the american people) ARE the last true remaining superpower from the cold war days....

And i thought to myself ~is bush using this~

and now to finish the decision in my mind, i would like your thoughts on this...

well now, with no other 'true' superpowers left, bushy-boy can use this fact to the advantage beyond what he has done so far... he could, in a sence, become as bad as hitler...

Europe is not truley a superpower yet.. they have more than one leader, and would end up in debates continuosly and never acomplish the end goal..

alright well.. yeah.. we are a superpower.... but not the last..... I have to agree with paulo... China is not something to be taken lightly.... when they decide to strike.. its not gonna be pretty.... not only do they have a horrible amount of man power... but as paulo said.. they also have Nucluer weapons... and the means to use them.

China may be a superpower but it is hardly more than a threat that extreme paranoia would elevate. In their entire history they have never declared war on a foriegn body. They were prisoners during world war two. They built the great wall to keep the Mongolian empire from invading their land. They are not much of a threat but many have remarked on that ideal in the first post. The EU is becoming it's own potent little superpower as well it seems but i'm not sure on that one yet as most reading on it is lengthy and I haven't gotten that far. Anyway in a way Bush is using it and he has said so himself many times. Usually under a phrase about how we are expected to set the worlds example or insure peace and freedom in all lands. It can be used either way i'm not debating the other motives there obviously are. Yet.

This may or may not have any thing to do with the current discussion but what about North Korea? A while back people were mentioning it on the news but they alays quickly turned the talk to Afganastan, or Iraq. I personly feel that If they began an expasion program to build an empire they would be very difficult to stop.

Some people consider the US to be so far beyond everyone else that they have called it a Hyperpower instead of a Superpower. I guess the one after that would be Ultrapower.

That's a little disingenuous. Tibet certainly considered itself foreign, even if China disagreed. They've also bombarded Taiwanese islands - again, they would not call it foreign of course. Nor were they exactly whiter than white in their wars with India. Incidentally, there's a good story in India that every year they go up to the high mountain passes in the Himalayas and move the border flags a yard forward. Almost certainly an urban myth, sadly. I don't think they have flags.

Still, I don't think they're a huge threat, and haven't been since Mao died and the Gang of Four were toppled. They're too keen on the luxuries of capitalism to throw it all away in a war of any sort. I think they'll actually grow closer to the West over time, unless the West start shouting too loud about their human rights abuses.

China is not a superpower is not a super power and it never was (not too say it will never be though) The chinese are poorer than the russians will ever be. We are the last remaining superpower, like the roman empire, we will aquire more and more until we fall united. Hoorah

now dont you forget about north korea... you can see how bush is trying to get rid of em...
