anyone who has been to your local best buy has probably noticed the receipts that they hand out. it's a thermal print on a very light paper stock. for those of you who aren't familiar with their return policies, you usually have 30 days to return the product (some things such as computers only have 14 days) if you're not satisfied or if the product has a defect. in order to return the item, you must have the packaging along with the receipt that they handed you.

here's the problem:

since the receipts are printed on thermal paper, heat of any kind will cause the printed text to fade completely. usually when you get a receipt you put it in your pocket or wallet, of course both of these places are susceptible to your own body heat, which as i pointed out will begin a fading process immediately. if you're the type that places a receipt in your wallet, chances are you won't take it out for several days, increasing the amount of time that the thermal print is subjected to your own body heat and further fading it.

so here's the scenario:

joe buys a stereo on the 1st of the month, once he pays for it, he gets a bag containing his stereo and he places the receipt in his wallet for safe keeping. joe gets in his car, sitting on his wallet, and begins to generate heat. this process continues for several days as joe goes about his every day affairs. suddenly, 10 days later, joe's new stereo isn't working correctly. joe takes back the stereo, stands in line for 30 minutes and presents the receipt to the customer service rep. unfortunately none of the printed item numbers or purchase information is available and the customer service rep. refuses to help joe with his return.

joe is fucked.

You should buy something, that you would like to keep, and then try to get a replacement by purposely fading out the receipt..
If they don't replace it, you have a conspiracy.. And a VERY big lawsuit!!!!!!!

not really, 'cause then if i did win, i'd probably just end up with a replacement of what i already had.

i don't think a judge would grant us any damages though.. that's why it's such a brilliant scheme by them. the only action we could take would be to sue best buy and make them change their printers, which would probably cost them a grip of money, but we wouldn't make anything off of it.

actually it shouldn't cost them a whole lot to change there receipt system.. they have all the products needed in stock

well yeah, but someone still needs to pay for those components.

You know it is just like those corrporate slobs to do something like this. You know! all they would say is it is a less expensive ink. It's all a lie though!

One day it will all pan out though. They'll have public safety commercials with orange curtains letting more people know about buying wallets. But that's what no one knows. It's all about selling cow hide wallets to the masses to protect their receipts. It's a sad, sad world.
