WTFery? - 01-05-05

According to someone Einstein or someone else along those lines believes that if one beam of light went toward another beam of the light the "collision" of those two beams would merely be the speed of light in terms of faux velocity, whereas how you have two cars hit each other head on and the speeds are basically combined.

I don't understand that.
Really, I don't.

I think it's total and utter idiocy.

Also, I do not believe that "Traveling at the speed of light" causes any sort of "temporal warp", because time itself is nothing more than the basic progression of the chemical reactions of the body, as I was informed in Chemistry, and unless if traveling at a fast velocity causes the reactions to stop then it wouldn't make sense.
On top of that, there's also the fact that while you might seem to be moving while nothing else is moving, while at the speed of light, it does not mean that time has slowed...merely that you are moving faster than everything else. Compare a Car that's going 10 MPH to a car that's going 100. It seems like the one that's going 10 is at a standstill if you view it from the car going 100.

Yup.

Pie.

If the clock on a fast travelling spacecraft is slightly slower than that of a stationary house, then as you go faster and faster, relative time is slower and slower, so what happens when you break the speed limit of the universe?, you go back in time and have crazy adventures with Doc Brown and invent the Frisbee.

It's also possible to age at the same rate as your son, yet, relatively speaking, be younger if you spend enough time at very high speeds.

Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

If I recall correctly the hypothesis has always been that if you were to travel at a speed, beyond the speed of light that that would cause freaky shit to happen with time and space.

Which makes no sense at all.
Moving quickly is something that things do all the time.
Cheetah's, for instance, move far faster than Humans. Race car drivers tend to move through their lives quickly.
However, moving quickly tends to wear down the body more. In the instance of a Cheetah they can only do it for a short period of time, due to overheating and exhaustion.
In the case of race car drivers their actual bodies wear down due to the forces being shoved on them.

Thus, how can moving at the speed of light(Or close to it) cause some manner of anti-aging? The only thing I can think of is that it doesn't.

The clock itself doesn't go not due to a slow down in time, but rather due to the reactions required to move the clock becoming "compressed" by the extreme speed, thus making it so that they can not move as quickly as before. IE, it doesn't actually slow down time, but merely gives the illusion of a temporal alteration.

I like pie.

It isn't anti-aging, only to other people.

You'll always age at the same rate, just that rate isn't how it seems to other people, hence whilst you would age the same speed, the time movement would be different, hence whilst you have experienced and aged twenty four hours, other people will have experienced more time and aged appropriately.

Because of a chemical occurance not occuring as it should, not because of some sort of "OMG THE TIME HAS ALTERED YOU".

Wrong. Your experience is different because you've dilated time. There have been experiments conducted with mouns proving that time dilation does occur. just do a google search for "The Muon Experiment". That's just one among many tests that show how time and gravity are inextricably linked. Moving at the speed of light (or damn near close) will just change the way time moves around you or your craft, not alter the effect that time has on your body.

look guys... go take a physics course. Carl Sagan's Videos could attempt to explain it much better than I (watch the one about the Italian Boys and the Scooter).

But how does one measure time at all?
Seconds?
Then we say "Well, if that second is extended time is being extended."
However, what caused the extension? Is it really an alteration of time or merely an alteration of the pressures, the chemical reactions and the overall events of said mechanical device being used to detect the time?

Have you actually seen someone go up into outerspace and whisk about for 50 real years while exceeding the speed of light, and then come back to here and see if he's "aged" like normal or not?

There is no means, currently, to detect anything like that. All we see are effects on MECHANICAL DEVICES, scientific effects that can easily be explained as mere ordinary events, rather than "Temporal Dilation".

I have seen /no/ proof of time alterations, ever.
Thus it's like God. Some believe, and some don't. Neither can prove nor disprove, thus while it hasn't been proven it can not be therein disproven and so both sides are as correct as the other.

Aye aye cap'n monkey man! :p
That..is the best avatar ever, Errant. EVER. I love you.

But seriously, there is currently no means by which to prove or disprove the affect of lightspeed travel on anything, because we can't do it. We can only theorize, and those theories are flawed.

As most theories tend to be, hence why they're called theories.
