| Why don't we eat the dead? -
07-23-03
Well ok perhaps not actualy eat them, there are many health reasons why we don't eat the dead, but in a world where slowly rationality is taking over from the psuedo-sciences and religions why aren't we throwing away our archaic moral issues and using an immense resource.
Look at it this way..we need trees to breath..Why not stop using trees to create paper and wood and throw ourselves into researching how the bone and carbon of our bodies could be used in everyday materials.
Being squeemish is not a good excuse, it's about time death became a more acceptable part of life as it is our attempts to hide from it that are causing most of the problems of this overpopulated world. Because Soylent Green is far too adictive... personally, i'd much rather my organs go for transplant and the rest of me (save my brain... i want that preserved) recycled into compost. ___Nick_the_Rogue___ To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. What about your family? Do you know how they'd feel because personaly I'm right with you. I don't care what happens to my ugly corpse after I die. If it's used for something useful like crash testing or something, great! To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Lol 1st thing self thought of was Soylent Green too !!
Religious taboos of the modern world ..
Native types around the world used to consume parts for powers as we all know ...or should ??
With the way were going as a race it could come to pass the recycleing of ourselfs , the concept is old and is probly going on just fine SOMEWHERE !!
Be it Soylent Green, Dune ( recycled all body water..) , or the current ok to take parts or be donated to science ..Self feels we could do a hell of alot more with our dead ...
Here's some of ol IVD's thoughts on dis ..
BONE DAGGERS !! like check it out man ! blades or just handels carved out of ye fathers leg bones ARR !! laddie... that be keeping it in da family there boy !! a truely useful family heirloom !
Then dont forget the hand crafted family CHESS SET !! Let family rivals meet in battle for ages to come with out shedding blood ! what a better way to honor your dead then to make chess sets outa their remains
.......... I JIST LOVE MY CHESS SET ! Its a real HOT item at family git togthers !!! JIM Mc Coy .........
Help BUILD the future like NEVER BEFORE!!! nonate your body to become the building blocks of tomorow, with the BODYS TO BRICKS Foundation!!
..............Finaly a use for all these dam dead gang members !! and who whats to graffiti any wall made from thier dead homies ! Each brick may be customised with Name, dates , and Final Words ! ..What a better way ta say YO was part of the HOOD then to become a part of the newest Quicky Mart !! ........( humm probly should keep this IDEA for MYSELF ...smells $$$.. lol
Anyways Self could go ON an ON !! ALL-ARE-ONE
((((((Warning Lord-IVD is prone to rant, miss spell , use broken engrish refer to himself in the 3rd person and display many other disturbing traits,....Read at your own risk!! ))))))

I'm all for grinding them up and using them as landfill/fertiliser(blood and bone). The self consumption thing is a bit off putting. If the world starts relying on 'rack of human' we create a market that could have murderous repercussions. Learn as if you were going to live forever. It's not cannibalism if you don't eat humans and some countries where this still goes on are far more civilised than people give credit. For example mostly people are only eaten when they die..they are not murdered for food in all cases..it is a ceremony of sharing a persons life.
Course I'm not supporting cannibalism (unless it's really tasty) but if we can do more with the dead than we are currently doing then there is no good reason why we shouldn't. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

We DO eat the dead. Both human and animal. We (most of the time) bury our dead and thus they decompose and are reintegrated into the cycle of life; by organic fertilization of the trees and the green beans on your plate.
Pocahontas showed us how to bury a fish with our corn to make it grow faster.....
Mom Nature figured it out already.....don't fuck with it. Life is to be measured by action, not by time...the largest space of time is to live until a man is wise. He that dies of old age does no more than go to bed when he is weary...it is the work of fate to make us live long, but it is the business of virtue to make a short life sufficient.

I had an ethics professor who said to me, "The core issue of morality, according to my old mentor, is whether or not we should eat people."
I will go Kantian on this one, with a little Chopenhauer: If we do not treat every being of rational mind, capable of experiencing suffering, equally, then we do not deserve to be treated as one. In other words, we gotta treat these people as ends in and of themselves, not as means to some other end, otherwise, we're not worthy of similar consideration. So if we are going to eat people, and use their bones to make our bread, we must make sure that they are on that level of consideration... does this make any sense?
One more issue: If we're to eat people in order to be efficient, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. Dead protein (that is, any meat) gives you barely a margin of the wholesome goodness of beans or eggs. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Despite the title of this thread (attention grabbing as it is) eating the dead is not really the issue.
I would ask you to cut the Pocohontas crap as we don't fertilize our crops with our dead as you seem to suggest..we bury them 6 feet down in a graveyard full of inedible grass where they take ages to decompose properly and thats even if they don't have a lead lined coffin.
I'm not sure what all that consideration stuff was about either I'm afraid. It seems to me that a corpse is simply a big bag of chemicals and using it as fertilizer on crops or shoving a rocket up it and sending it into orbit doesn't make a difference to the person said bag of chemicals used to be.
I'd draw the line at feeding human meat to pets..they seem to like the taste of us a little too much as it is. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Unfortunately with some types of diseases, such as Ebola, AIDS and the like, it wouldn't be practical to "recycle" humans......
In California for @ $2,500 US- $10,000 US you can be made into a diamond.......LifeGem offers to take your body, cremate it and condense it into the size of diamond you choose......a .25, .50 or even a whole carat.
So I guess you really CAN wear folks like jewellry...... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Cool, now that's an heirloom. Probably cost less then a funeral anyway.
I wouldn't mind being jettisoned out into space to eternally orbit earth. Bodies don't decompose in space do they? Closest thing to becoming a star I can think of. Put it this way, if a person were to die in good health, say by an accident, the only thing preventing most from eating human flesh is the idea. Once someone dies, their body becomes a sack of cooling meat, like any other organism. I don't really care if someone ate my body after I died, hell, I should put that on my organ donor card. Have you not learned from the corpses of your bretheren?

*reads the toe tag*
"To be refridgerated. Grade 'A' human meat. Cook well, and add onions when cooking the liver, steak when cooking the kidneys. Store in a cool, dry place."

Remember, though, Tentacle.......there has to be truth in advertising, so make sure your tag has vitamin, fat, protein, and all that nonsense clearly deliniated on it for easy reference....
Mine would have mostly fat/stringy muscle/chemical additives (such as aspartame, and Cola chemicals) as well as preservatives......not a healthy meal at all, methinks..... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
