some friends and myself were debating, with much heated drunken anger, on what is the key definition of virginity....thus far, a number of arguments have been presented; however, i looked it up in the dictionary where virginity was said to be the uninvolvement of sexual intercourse: sexual intercourse is the act of coitus: coitus is male and female suxual organs interacting........in other words, losing ones virginity means a dick goes in the pussy....what do you think?

works for me... though the technical description may be different for males and females... for males it might be straight coitus... for females, most cultures tend to go with the breaking of the hymen...

but girls can break their hymen doing sports. so they lose their virginity to a running feild? eh..

i think that oral sex/anal sex count as losing your virginity. and its true-- women can pop cherries by playing sports.. or riding a horse.. so cherries have nothing to do with virginity. anything sexual is losing your virginity

the closest ive heard to this was a phrase that i myself coined a few years ago... that would be the common law virgin. where you've been SO long without sex that its as if you never had any to begin with. after mild, humorous discussion with friends over the time passed... two years was settled upon. but, upon legal reflection, five to ten years is the case for common law marriage.

i propose that the most logical definition is anything sexual with another person.......to define virginity as not having coitus is too easy of a definition......as masochist stated, what of homosexuals?

i would definie a virgin as one pertaining sexual innocence (minus masturbation), therefore i too agree that anal sex, oral sex, even hand jobs, might be contenders for losing one's virginity, for innocence is gone.....yet, if this theory is in any way valid, then i must ask whether or not rape victims and people who were molested lost their virginity.....and please, keep the whole "it's all in the frame of mind" theories out since anything can be declared as "frame of mind"......

If a homosexual is considered to have lost their virginity by anal penetration, then any act of penetration would be considered a loss of virginity. I relate virginity to innocence, naivety and inexperience. Anything heavy would be considered having sex but not a loss of virginity(hasn't been experienced).Personally, it was a big deal for me to lose my virginity even though I had been heavily sexually active before.

interesting how definitions shift... as virginity was first proposed to guarantee a bride's fidelty... such that the bloodline would not have the possibility of taint by an out of wedlock suitor.
