yeah yeah - the bible says "Judge not lest ye be judged" but this isn't a religious question, it's a moral one.

What do you feel about people judging others?

Is there a time and place, and how far is it to be taken.

Do we all have a right to just spout off our opinion on another persons character or mistakes?

Should it happen only when asked for an opinion?

Should only those people who have had experience with the same issue give an opinion?

I know that people judge by nature, I am just asking when do you think it's appropriate...

I don't like it. I think that the only appropriate time to judge is once you know someone. Judging simply by a person's outward quirks just shouldn't be done. But everyone else, and by that I mean mostly preps, though there are exceptions, will judge right then and there the first time they see a person. And that is something I hate.

I think for the most part judging others should be avoided. After all, you have no right to judge others until you are perfect and devoid of faults yourself. An imperfect person judging others is a hypocrite, and hypocrisy is one of the worst faults a person can have.
In some cases, I suppose, judging may be necessary. For example, if someone looks dangerous, it may be best to judge them as so and avoid them for the sake of your own safety until you learn they are otherwise.

I trust my instincts..... so I judge everyone the second i meet them.... even my Wife hates the fact that I do that... well hated teh fact that I do that.... she has also learned to trust my instincts.... I almost always judge correctly.... though I do make a few mistakes here and there... for the most part i am usually correct...

In my opinion, although people feel that they have a right to pass judgement upon another for their actions, it is a poor choice for self. You have never walked in that person's shoes, you cannot know their reasons for being who or what they are.

If someone were to do something that you disliked or disrespected, in that case you could dislike them, but judging their reasons for doing it, is an iffy thing.

I think that opinions always change, therefore I try to remain open minded and insure I hold to the possibility that a one time issue could have been just that. However if it is repetetive, that shows a completely different aspect of their personality.

If you dislike drugs, you can still dislike the action of using drugs, but not necessarily judge the person who uses them, for you know not their reasons for doing them.

When? When you can think clearly and with minimal bias you are in the best frame of mind to judge people.
I dont mind people judging others but like anything it can and is abused.Pointing out every character flaw you see all the time makes you a asshole imo. Experiance and empathy work well in coming up with a fairer judgement as well as a calm thought process.^_^

i thing passing judgement is a good thing, although it may not be the correct thing overall, but nonetheless passing judgment has its good qualitites and good overpowers.....

like when considering sterotypes, passing judgements exist for the advent that people will always be considered by some rationale....

but it is wise to remember that although we might declare passing bad judgments as wrong, the same goes for passing good judgements.....how many times have thought someone was worth the earth only to discover they are a disease?

and i think it is impossible to say that anyone can have the audacity to watch someone free from judgement until that said person is truly identified.....

i say pass judgements all day, for it is better to be proven wrong although justified for your rationale, than to be proven right and justified for your feelings......although many may say that the latter is better, but either way there is a win-win situation

I really try hard not to judge people. I accept peoples idiosyncrasies as just that and apply a relationship that caters. If I find myself starting to get pissed off or judging someone I just start making up a story of their life that bought them to that point and I find myself totally inept then at the job of judging.
I find judgements to be restrictive to both partys. I've always related the word judgement to condemnation I suppose.Consideration is probably a better alternative for me.

to pred-judge someone is prejudice and you can't judge someone until you have all the facts - something you are unlikely to have.

After all, you can only judge others by your own standards so what is really happening is giving your opinion of others based on yourself and your own morals.

Judging people for the clothes they wear or music they listen to, etc is way out of order. That just show small mindedness and a lack compassion.

Judgement is for god - the rest of us have to rely on opinion.

Everyone judges to some extent...you hear that the teenage girl down the street just had her 8th surgical abortion performed, naturally you start thinking...

But the question is, I think, wether you let your assumptions influate your behaviour? Will you treat her differently, even when having confirmed the rumours? Or will you simply let it slide and decide it's her life, her choices?

Will you interfere? Tell her about condoms, birth control, the father's right in such a question? Then you are judging her.

Do you get to know the prep before you decide they aren't part of that exception? Hell..I'm not a prep and I think I can't help but judge people right then and there the first time I meet them. This isn't all bad. I'm not judging that they are a horrible person.

I'm just, assuming what group of people they most likely hang out with based on the way they look, dress, act...ect... I then assume, what their interests might be...as pertains to movies, music, forms of entertainment that usually fit that group of said people.

However, I never decide that because this person is part of said group they must think such and such...they are OBVIOUSLY not the type of person I'd want to hang out with. I just admit to myself that people act certain ways because of the type of people they are usually around.

You rarely walk up to a group of people and see one person from a bunch of different genre's...because generally people like to look like who they hang out with. And with this knowledge, with the knowledge that despite people feeling comfort in mirroring their surroundings, and with the knowledge that just because they mirror their surroundings they don't necessarily fit in with the stereotypical mentally.I only judge the exterior.

I could never feign to believe that I could judge anything else without a deeper knowledge of that one person. To me, this is healthy. Someone who walks down the street, with tattoos and purple hair...they want you to know who they are. They want you to accept them for that. We aren't bland cookie cutter people.

And when I say judge, I don't mean in a negative way. I form an opinion, I am a very opinionated person, I like this about me. And, most of my opinions when it comes to people, I have met so many, they are rarely negative.

Look within yourself and tell me that you don't do these same things. Hell, I'm only human...

so, does that mean if someone was to form a negative judgement that is wrong?

i think not, for judgements have a supporting theory behind it....whether or not the actual contradicts the judgment, nonetheless the judgment is rational and just.....

if i see a prep, i think of a person dumb witted and conforming, if i see a goth, i think of a cliched wannabe death individual, if i see a redneck, i think of a right wing anti-individuality ignoramous, if i see a cheerleader, i think slut, if i see a jock, i think idiot slut, and so the list continues......

and when you think black you think criminal right? Stereotypes may be aided by statisitcs or offhand impressions of a group but its easier to use that form as a half hearted hypothisis rather than a firm conclusion.
