The CHruch during the 12th Century was at the hight of it's power and was ruthlessly inttending to maintain that power. THe introduction of an order called the inquisition was designed with the intention of maintianing the purity of the mother chruch. The Inqusition had three main aims. Find Heresy, Denounce Heresy, Destroy Heresy. These were predominantly seen as Cathars, Jews and moors, but Science came under scrutiny too

Roger BAcon was a man years ahead of his time. For the same inventive genius that earned Di Vinci the title genius landed BAcon 7 years in prison. For failing tor ecant his works on philopsophy and science, he was almost put to the torch. If it hadn't been for his work on gunpowder and the potenital military value of it winning him many powerful patrons to over-power the church, then there would not have been anything stopping the works of this genius from being lost forever as he was burnt on a pyre of his own works of genius.

13 Century France, Under the orders of the Chruch Works by Galen, Hippocrates, Aristotle Euclid and many others are burnt inb a public display of anti-heretical thought. Jaques Lepecher is burnt also for transporting these books into france.

Spring 1209 Lucius of Duron finishes building an annex to his keep. This the first great library of greek and roman works. He collects many rare and irreplaceble texts in it. He has monks who set about copying these works. Thought of a new dawn of learnign spread throughout Accademia. Cambridge College puts in orders for copies. Winter 1209, Duron Keep lies in ash and rubble. Surrounded by forces under the direct command of Cardinal Valaud, the Keep is burnt to the gorund. There are no survivors

How did this church use the bible to justify there deeds?

The Mother Church was and is The Holy Roman Church... or if you like... The Catholic Church....

Since protestantism didn't really start until Martin Luther posted the 95 thesis on the walls of the cathederal and then the diet of worms which gave his religious ideals free reign to counter the corrupt Catholic church. This was 15th Century history though. This was over 200 years after the dark ages of Christian enforced ignorance.

What is this "enforced ignorance" bullshit? Most all of what you hear about christians crushing places of learning is exaggeration of a few incidents or a great expanse of time. It makes for a great cautionary tale so we hear it again and again, but more than 50% is fluff to criticize the church (not that it isn't well-deserved) and to pump up the pomp and supposed [educational] authority of the well-educated beourgouisie(sp?)

Martin Luther was actually a rat bastard. He was a racist, sexist asshole. Not that he wasn't right to criticize the church. Anyway, it's pretty much accepted fact in any reputable historical circle that all European civilization and memory of the Romans would've died out without the Christian church. Monks were the ones who preserved and recorded history from the time of the fall of the Roman Empire up until the Renaissance.

Actually it was the Magisters in Artibus who actually researched and preserved history in the the 12th Century. The main universities of Cambridge, Paris and Bolonga (and others) were the ones who worked on most of the great works of history. Most of the information on the romans and the greeks was found by these scholars and taken back to the great university libraries. Scribes (Laymen) were the ones who copied these works. The scribes however only did what they were told and during the dark ages, the church tried to censor the libraries of the great universities.
