what do you guys think about people who boycott stuff like harry potter and wicca because it's 'evil' or whatnot, but tell their kids stories about magic creatures like santa claus, the easter bunny, and the tooth fairy?

OK, I live in South Texas, so I speak from experience...there are so many people who hate based strictly on face value...they won't let their kids trick-or-treat, they won't put up a christmas tree, the won't let their kids see Harry Potter...because it is "of the devil". What they don't realize is that their kids are 50 imes more likely to run away from home, do drugs, have sex, and try everything else their parents would never tell them about....how sad is that....if you are honest, and open with your kids, they will grow up thinking for themselves, and that is all we can hope for.....well, that, and winning the lottery...

i may not agree with these socalled fundamentalists objecting to Harry Potter... i only wish they would do it so without the public forum... make it a personal choice on their part, not force it into the national arena.

it is my choice to view what they dislike, not because they hate it, but because i love it.

I also lived in TX--and i learned alot about how close-minded people can be. I grew up in a household where religion was not a factor because of my parents being from two TOTALLY different beliefs....anyway when my Christian friends would become horrified at the thought i wasn't going to church--i used to talk about that with my mom. She explained to me that their parents expected it of them to be the same religion as they are---because of them wanting their children to be "normal"---part of the majority. Well, I guess i'll never be part of that majority and i knew when harry potter came out it would cause problems. Just like with Lion King--people say that it was prejudice against African Americans--saying that the higher creatures like the Lions were white and the hyenas were black. It's amazing how judgemental people can turn something simple like a children's movie into something horrifing.

I mean i understand that one thing may be insulting to one person and not the other, but why not let people make that decision on their own instead of being influenced by criticism??

they say harry potter teaches bad morals and stuff-but if the books follow the movie then bad means standing up for what one knows is right and being a true friend. the xians say it's evil because the kids broke school rules- but they saved the school in the end. rules are for ordinary situations, if they don't work in an extraordinary situation then why should they be followed?

I think it is retarded to expect everyone to conform to your moral standerds and think everything that you think is evil is unfit for watching. If we want to go see something, There is no way in hell that they can stop us. They expect that just because they don't agree with something, that no one, even people that don't see it is wrong, should see it.
