seriously - we cannot measure space, although we can calcute a number to infinity.

You cannot measure the time on a computer, because by the time it takes to make the calculation - time has moved forward and the answer has changed.

You cannot measure "now", or "where space ends". Now show me how the universe is closed.

three points i wish to address... the first, in theory, a definite measure of space is not necessary to a cyclic universe as the universe would expand "so" far in relation to the events in its history (IE size and amount of singularities) and then contract "so" far in relation to the same events (same thing with singularities and super-black holes)... chaos rules its unltimate size and ultimate contraction... time is relative to distance, speed of light as determined by universal constants (there is a whole range of possible SOL limits different to ours as determined by possible universe characteristics) and so on and so forth....

second, can you measure infinity for me? and what does an infinte universe have to do with a closed universe? they are two different aspects that could be possible at the same time...

third, space does not have to have a measure for a closed system to occur... the ether beyond the particles of the universe need not be encroached upon for the universe to be closed. a closed system merely states that there is nothing OUTSIDE the universe (such as a parrallel universe which would make our universe and the parrallel universe defunction in definition of a universe... just two macrocosms seperated by spacetime)...

besides... isn't the universe expanding or something?

and I don't know if the universe is expanding, we haven't been able to measure it ...

actually, we have (as far as we can see anyway)... and points do seem to be moving father apart on a universal (again, as far as we can see) scale

"as far as we can see" is the key part of that phrase. That is still undefined.

You guys should take a look at the essays on Infinite universe theories in Religion..... it is quite interesting..... and poses some serious questions for debate.....

in one essay the author poses the theory that perhaps ther big bang was and is not an isolated event... that it may indeed occur all the time throughout an infinite universe.....

I kinda of see it as a circle.... does a circle have and end or a beginning???

A circle, once made has no end and no beginning, the only end and/ or beginning is during the making of the circle

actually, if indeed something is circular, there is no making it for that would entail that it has properties of a line......a circle would be infinite

Infinite as an ideal as well as an Empirical Constant is by definition immeasurable..... in order for a measurement to be taken one must have two opposite poles.....

not true... the only thing i mean by closed is that there is nothing OUTSIDE the physical bounds of the universe... no huge blob of infinity somehow outside of out huge blob of infinity... honto?

oh... i see... tottally different idea then, okay - why not?why can't there be hundreds of blobs within one whole?

Just like there are billions of people on the earth itself, why not the same thing with universes (sp)?

the classic arguement for alien life existing...can aliens be reincarnated onto the various "blobs" of the universe? or is it more of an exclusive type of reincarnation?

let me think on this a while longer, this post has sweepingly grand implications
