Well, here's 18 more pianful truths that roughly match yours, Tent-dude.
1.Your detah isn't the end of life, it's jsut the end of your life.
2.People aren't anything deep down inside, they are empty deep down inside, the secret is what you put there.
3. Common sense is relative
4.I'd beg God that everything I do benefits soemthign somewhere, because nothing anyone does will survive them.
5.The trick isn't to be an individual, it's to avoid the asylum.
6.With allt he freaky-ass animals we still don't know about on earth and are killing, who fucking cares about aliens?
7.Good and evil aren't fictitious, they're just impalpable, like a verb. You can't touch the concept of "running" but you sure can do it.
8. And damn proud.
9.Refer to YOUR No6.
10.The meaning of life is to make yourself useful and to noyt dare to outlive your usefulness.
11.Refer to Nieztche and/or Fight Club.
12.Depression is rampant because people realize their lives suck ass because they can't be what they're "supposed" to be. The cure is in the society in which we look to other poepl to find what we need. Why do I know? I come from a greta big family of depression.
13.Peace truth and love aren't the natural state of anything. Every natural force is against peace truth and love, in fact, that's why we fight for things so precious.
14.Unless you are, in which case, refer to No14%
14%. You should be ashamed of yourself!
15.Band nerds, too.
16.Loneliness blows.
17.Loneliness blows a lot.
18.The last two facts are very important. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

| Not so Painful Counter(ish) Truths -
12-20-02
- We know for sure what happens at death, we die. Although wishful thinking allows many to completely ignore this rather than find immortality through procreation.
- People aren't particularly pleasant by nature, however being social creatures with the ability to override many of our flaws through education and socialisation, we can be.
- Common sence is socialisation and education, the more these areas improve, the more common sence will.
- Our entire live's will probably not benefit anyone but ourselves, to ourselves. Fortunately though, most of us who consider ourselves good do help others out, even by something as simple as lending someone money when they are in need. We could do so much better by collaborating with each other to remove some of the institutions which create the bad situations in the first place. (Think religious corruptness and wasted food stockpiles).
- We are all individuals, but this should be celebrated within society and the ennui of society rather than laughed at and admonished, within the ennui of society it can lead to great things.
- If there are intelligences outside this world, they probably can't get here, postulating what they'd do is therefore a waste, because they'd work out what to do and we would be unlikely to be able to do anything about it.
- Good and evil are fictitious, this does not mean they aren't important. Good and evil are shades of acceptable, wanted behavior and unacceptable, undesired behaviour without which humanity would cease to thrive.
- We are of the animal kingdom, however, we have society and massive brains, this is because we have sex and more intelligent people are more attractive (along with other factors of course). We need to keep having sex, keep procreating and keep being outdone by our children. Both genders are required for this and both sexes should be equal.
- There aren't any vampires/fearies/demons etc... imagination is part of who we are, but delusion can be dangerous, thinking something does not make it so, trust me, I've tried this, and I am still not the best programmer who lived.
- The meaning of life is to think, to socialise and to procreate, the meanings you give life outside of this and incorporating this will define you.
- You are the person you want to be, however this does not include extenuating circumstances.
- Depression is a quite common mental illness which is loosley where the person has no cause to feel sad, but does, either because of past events or another cause. Depression with a cause is not a mental illness and is simply you not wanting to be in that situation, but unable to remove yourself from it.
- Peace, truth and love are not the natural state of mankind if you took away corruption etc. fortunately it can be the state of society given that we can override the natural state due to the size of the human brain and its concious control over our impulses.
I thought thirteen was a better number Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

Peter you say education can eradicate flaws but i think it's one of the things that creates the most flaws...for one thing it segregates the sexes from an early age and attempts to restrict the childs view of the world to simple uniform bullsh*t. The reason I hated school so much is because it's easy to see that you're being taught by ppl who failed in thier fields most of the time..having to correct your physics teacher every five minutes is a soul destroying thing...and i'm glad i did destroy his soul he was a bastard. These were counter-points of course, but I do believe that education is the answer, it's just right now, the education system needs a hell of a lot of improvement. Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

but i've learned most of my lessons from life, experience and those who've "been there and done that", these are the best lessons learned, not always the most pleasant...but a person can't rely on others to teach them everything...
and peter, i like your thirteen statements...a bit to realist for me but they make sense... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I should point out that I don't think that post showed him making the assumtion that school is the only form of education. Thanks. Find out exactly what to think, next.

it must be a european thing, i personally had good experiences in school with my individualism(except from other children, and homeschooling is always an option) I am impressed with the education system here and how they are dealing with my daughter...she has her own world(as they refer to it) and rather than discouraging her, they are just finding ways to keep her focused in this one, as her teacher says (observing her's, it must be an interesting one ...not all education systems are the same, i can understand the reasoning for school uniforms, and i was never forced to conform, just to do homework, i didn't do that, and my math skills suck! but my individuality is quite strong!
all these points are a weakness with the people...weak people, equal weak minds...it's easy to blame the constructs of society rather than taking the responsibility to change upon oneself... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Tent babe....treading on very shaky ground. For a start something in the education system did alright by you, obviously. I can sympathise with some of the points you make but I have found the system on a whole to be doing it's utmost to create free-thinkers of our children. But our education systems aren't there for that purpose, that's what your parents are for. Education is information. How you process it is down to the individual. Sure there are crap teachers but there are also exceptional ones. I take it we're talking primary education here...as the Catholic church has said "Give us a child until they're seven and they'll be ours for life" Learn as if you were going to live forever. Maybe treading on shaky ground but still the only lesson a child really needs is in how to learn. I was never taught this, everything I know I learned outside school, I learned science through journals like new scientist (Scientific American in the U.S) Though I struggled in lessons that required a child to memorise huge amounts of trivial rubbish I did fair very well in creative and ideas based subjects. If it weren't for my own drive to learn and read I would have lost the last vestiges of my interest in self improvement through learning, all because of the tedium i was subjected to in schooling.
p.s my english teacher was the best teacher i ever had because he taught me how important it was to think outside the box and that learning is a personal experiance that shouldn't be strictly regimented and controlled. Plus he encouraged my own ideas (something not one other teacher did) To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

See Tent, you were an exceptional case anyway and you will never forget that one good teacher. Don't ever forget the responsibility parents play in education. I teach my son to respect but question everything. Even in primary school he has been misinformed and we discuss it. I was teaching him before he even began school. I believe the best gift you can give your child is a love of learning and books and to seek his own truths. Maybe you expect a little too much from the establishment. I've been reading/thinking with a clear mind on the various existentialists and though they have helped me in certainly different ways, i cannot seem to exclude my seemingly peesimistic biology from my thoughts and life. I'm only 2 years younger than you tentacledead, and you seem to place things together so you can live a rather content existence. How did you become an optimist? i guess im asking for help, i usually dont so i dont know what it sounds like. in anycase thanks-christopher

First off, I have an awesome physics teacher.
While I'm on the topic of my life I want to point out that from my own expirences I would agree with your philosophy:
"2.People aren't all nice 'deep down inside' and may not have the potential to become so."
I want to agree with this at least, because I know that I am not nice deep down inside or really, anywhere else. And somehow I'd rather not be the only one - how unindivdual!
Somebody said "tick." Masochist, it was you. What was that exactly? I'm sick of my signature... :spam:
