They say that pain is mere impulses sent by your nerves to your brain to tell your nerves that they are being harmed and in turn, send that back to your brain as some form of "pain". But if this is the case, then perhaps pain is only an invention of our brains to tell us to take our damn hand off a hot stove. Maybe it is not the heat which causes the "pain," but our nerves telling our brain to tell our nerves to tell our brain. And if this is the case, does pain feel different to everyone? How do we know? How can we? And also, why couldn't we simply have some other feeling or way by which we can tell that we are hurtng ourselves, instead of it feeling so unplesant? Like, maybe a buzzing in our ears, or a little red flashing light in the back of our eyelids. Maybe pain is just our brain's own little way of punishing our stupidity for putting our hand on the stove anyway...

yes i do believe that pain is different for diff people. and it's according to taste as well as sensitivity.
and the terminator couldn't feel pain. he knew that he was supposed to and had some indicator of it, but it didn't hurt him. merely served as warning.
one thing, when i get head aches i don't take pills - i hardly ever take pills for sickness. but if i did, it's not really solving the problem is it, it's just taking the pain away, sure, but whatever's causing it is still going. i suppose that's all that matters for some people.
Pain is a very primitive way to tell you that something is wrong. But its better that way because without pain you might not notice what is happening and cause perm. or even fatel injury. And there are ways to tell how pain affect certain people with stuff like brain scans and the such.

it is true that some people actually lack that signal to their brain and feel no pain at all, i remember a show about a girl who just after several months of age she broke both her legs and ankles and never cried for she lacked the signal.....
but i do not think pain is merely an invention of the brain, i mean would you call eye sight an invention of the brain?
...all things exist in 3 forms it seems: form 1) the thing (eyes, skin, etc); form 2) the connection (nerves); form the understanding (brain)....which one of these is messed up effects the result
but it does appear that in some way the undertsanding (brain)effects the result, but not solely by itself....
like Tor says, everything you feel is on the waves of pleasure and pain, and each wave for everyone is deifferent based on how your form(s) exist for you
Pan can be good ^_^ I mean, some people do feel certain kinds of pain in a sexual way, not to mention sexual acts themselves. I was just posting a theory, not saying that I believe in it... pain can be fun
