Try to imagine a world where money does not exist... I bet you can't do it. Go ahead... try.

I see some of you are getting the idea: but others are not.

Let me try and explain further. I am not asking you to fantasize about a fictional world. Nor am i asking you about other worlds. I am asking you to imagine the world you live in today. here. On Earth. Now. Except with one difference. No money.

The concept of money is an abstraction. it is supposed to represent concrete things that actually exist.

If you delete an abstract concept from human existence: this does not mean you have deleted one single concrete atom from existence. All the atoms are still there. Only the abstract idea of money is missing.

BUT!!

If you delete this single abstract concept... you wilso have to delete other abstract concepts that are based upon this abstracty concept.

In other words... if you want to explore what the world you live in, would be without money... On a practical basis... You will be forced to explore and find out what other abstract concepts of our civilization are so inextricably connected to this abstract concept... that they would also have to be deleted...

it is merely a logical exercise in deleting abstract concepts from your existence...

After you have deleted the abstract concepts connected to money, that cannot survive and functionwithout this most basic of civilized abstract concepts...

What is left?

Well... you will still have the abstract concepts of language. You will still have abstract concepts... You will still have the ability to create abstract concepts... The only difference is that certain abstract concepts that you have taken for granted: are deleted from your existence.

Deleting abstract concepts from your existence is not like deleting actual molecules of atoms from your existence...

If you delete air from your existence you will die very quickly. if you delete water from your existence you will also die.

Deleting an abstract concept from ypour existence is not a life-or-death issue.

it is a secondary issue; not a primary one.

So... if you delete a secondary abstract concept from your existence: it is not that big a deal.

The only big deal is trying to find something to replace the void which it leaves in your life.

So... what would you fill the void that the disappearance of the abstract concept of money would create?

If you did not have to work for a living. if you did not have to use money to pay the rent with...

What would you do with all that free time?

How would human society change? What would be the outcome?

Why would one want to imagine that??? What point would it serve??

I can imagine a world where money doesn't exist. We are farmers again, trading chickens for record players and bartering your jewelry off for fish at the market. Everything is peaceful, there's no oil or automobiles, no offshore banks and credit cards. There is a medicine man in every village, hunters and fisherman thrive on their bounty, and everything in the world is right.

This is why threads like this make me rather...annoyed. Their philosophical relevance is almost nil, but it can be turned into a rather interesting discussion.

Mr. Saturn...a barter system is a monetary system! You want X, you better have a Y or a Z...an A or a B simply won't do!!! There's still a sense of worth to said objects, and their worth determines what they can be bartered for. I need that chicken, but what good is trading a record player if the whole of society (or a portion of it) has no electricity?!

Hence, a barter system is a monetary system.


But what exactly is this one-time-poster trying to suggest (on a philosophical level)???

Right boring and brutal... of course without the moeny there would be no medicines, just snake oil, and there wouldnt be record players either. It would be me murdering you so I can enslave your loved ones and control your land.

if money didnt exist the devil would just put his time on pride. It'd be just as evil just in a differant way. The only way to get rid of the worlds problems is replace your fantasies with the bible. I dont think anyone here wants to do that.

You guys are missing the point. If life as we knew it was more basic and money was replaced by something more subtle like a bartering system, then the world we live in would actually be easier to live in because you wouldn't have to make money to survive. You could live the rest of your life as a fisherman, doing what you love, and trading your fish for the things you want. Or you could own a farm, wherein you could harvest all the food that you need to survive. There would be no government because government runs on money. It's the ideal situation.

Who in thier right fuckin mind wants to live as a fisherman? Because guess what happens that 1 year when the fish come down with some wierd blight and you dont catch enough for the winter?

how many fucking times does it take you dumbfucks to realize communisim and anarchy doesnt work? why would the soviets have to build a wall so its consituants wouldnt crossover into a capatalist society. why station sentries at that wall to make absoulutly sure no one leaves.

oh yeah, the world exists, asking someone to think of non-existance is basicly impossible.

You take that chance whether you're a hunter, a gatherer, a fisherman, a farmer, you rely on nature's balance to supply you with your needs. If nature's wrath ensues then you may well die unless you find another way. Even to this day these professionals have to deal with plagues and droughts, except nowadays you find yourself owing a government or bank substance when your farm falls apart through debts. If there was no government or bank then who would you owe except yourself? If we all lived in villages we would all have our specific jobs that we did the best and we would all work with our hearts together to benefit the safety and the lives of our people. Mayors would be dethroned, police destroyed, and real militia would be formed. Militia that includes every living male person in that area. Unless we choose this way surely an antichrist will come and throw the world into turmoil through world war and uni-world conquest/government. It our only chance at avoiding world war.

I want war. I want to destroy lesser nations and peoples.

well that was easy. there are 8 worlds on our solar system alone where money doesn't exist.

besides the pride thing we would have no outlet for our instincts. without a system of trade of sum sort we'd be more like animals. fighting for respect and taking what we want from the weaker. Rich people dont fight as much as poor people. if ya dont believe me go to the bronx, or instead of a big city look at a small town. 60 percent unemployed cops steal wellfare checks. we had to steal fight hustle pedal and pimp just to put food on the table. moneys the root of all evil but God only teaches the strong to live without it.

I think money is a needed evil... and even in itself is not evil. humans are pieces of shit, born to corrupt everything around them. if it wasnt money being the oil for our gears, it would be something else.
