anybody here know somebody who has one. what do you think drives a person to have such a thing? is it some supream feeling of superiority or a mental imbalance? what are your thoughts on this subject.

Its that like magusim where a person believes they are more profound that is the case?

The person believes they are a prophet or the messiah?

Yeah, they think they have all the answers in life.

I think that it's one of three things... either theyare incredibly egotistical, amazingly wise or completely out of their minds. I can see how a combintaion of these could influence suach a delusion, as well.

Maybe it depends on whether they think they are someone else, like they believe they are christ as opposed to being like him, If someone believed they are that good then maybe they are, only time would tell,otherwise their couldn't be any prophets, but someone who thought they are jesus, would, in my opinion be barking mad, the type that might get dangerous in a confined space.
Wonder how many world leaders think they are someone else?

I think a bit of messiah complex lurks within us all...and it serves its purpose....either as a defensive mechanism or as a self-reliance tool. But I agree that it can be taken too far...

for instance I think I am the direct decendants of Jesus of Nazareth and Mary Magdalin...hey, it could be...naw...probly not... well sure, why not... definately...I AM GOD.....hehehehehe

Na, I don't think so, maybe you are better in the true sense, if no-ones better, then you could go and gas people and it wouldn't make any difference. Everyone definitely isn't the same.

There's this guy in India, I think, Mahatma Babar. He claims to be the 2nd coming of Christ. He's got several followers already, and his own website.

What about that Chinese guy, Mooney: he also claims to be the second coming of Christ - except this time greater and better. They have a massive cult and truck-loads of money. Worse than the Scientologists...

(and I think you can have a superiority complex without having a messiah complex, so it's not just a feeling of being "better")

I believe a messiah complex also requires a christian faith...hence the 'messiah'-part...

I disagree messiah complex has a looser meaning and besides messiah is the Jewish King of Kings.

I think alot of "us" have created our own worlds...environments if you will...a fragile glycerin bubble in which our worlds exist...we are lord and master of this world...it just floats through reality with swirling irridescent colors...containing your perfect existance... your loved ones, your home, your safe and beautiful world...then some asshole pokes it with a stick and...POP...ain't it a bitch...you realize your world was a lie...just like the fucking easter bunny...just like everyone else's "perfect" bubble...a falicy, just to get through the day...so you either live in cold hard reality...or you create another swirling floating plane to rebuild a smaller, and hopefully more durable world...Superior, maybe...maybe not, but I am Misery...that's right say my name...and I am Mistress in my land...

I'm guessing that if someone truly believes they are the messiah, and not just attempting to scam dull-witted folk who join their cause, we're looking at a case of megalomania with a religious bent.
