No I don't mean greed in the literary sense I mean that we want what we don't have or cherish what we do then when we lose it we feel sad.
We may cherish the love of another person and want them around us as much as we can get
We may cherish a place, like your home.

When we lose them we feel sad because we wanted more, we were greedy

like ireland?

but is that greed or sorrow? if it was something you lost that once brought you joy, i don't see how that can be a greed, greed to me is wanting more even if you already have it...i have a barrel of apples, but i want the whole orchard so they are all mine...to me that's greed...not being able to live life as it was and wanting to gain that freedom again is not greedy, maybe a little selfish but i'd equate it more with loss.

He obviously learnt it from the same school you learnt tact and diplomacy, Errant. As far as I'm concerned repression keeps me in a state of continuous shock at what I don't fuckin usually have the guts to express.

personally repression helps me...i repress the emotions when they are strong and volatile and i have less control..and than at a later time when things are calm and i've collected myself i can sift those out and keep out the part that needs to be addressed, discarding all the negativity that comes with a strong emotion...i find it helps me get along with people better and definitly helps me survive.

No, not literary material greed, wanting something or even needing something, wanting more light, more heat, wanting to keep what you have, wanting to keep all your friends, wanting to keep a comfortable life, not wanting to be sick.

Wanting is greed, not welcoming change is greed, resisting change is greed, again not in the literary sense, in the philosophical sense.

to elaborate....the root of all evil is greed, to say that greed is responsible for all saddness, want and desire is to say that basic human nature is evil...and if that's the case, this is the wrong thread

Evil is when you do something for your own benifit to the detriment of others.....

Basic human nature IS evil, if not all the holy men would have been preaching that we do evil rather than good.

If they only did what came naturally what would have been special about them?

Dictators do what they want without thought for others, they only think of their own needs, are they really inherently good but have the willpower to go against their natures?

Repression isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you use repression to prevent shock, you can slowly digest the issue until you're ready to face it.

Errant: "please explain this continous shock premise though. im not quite following."

I repress my emotions and end up saying nothing. Then it becomes resentment, then a complexity of guilt, frustration, rage, and depression. One day I think my head may just blow up.

Feroluce:"Evil is when you do something for your own benifit to the detriment of others....."

Can't apply that in a survival scenario though. Self preservation isn't evil it's instinct.

Oh no, does that make it greed? heheheh, argh, I'm getting dizzy. Na...I think it's just delirious exhaustion from so much repression. I'm in a kinda 'psychosomatic addict insane' mood today, anything could happen

I dont think those things are always caused by a chemical imbalance some people may have secrets or bottle things inside, maybe they have a disease, maybe something bad is happeneing in their life. thats what causes depression i think. Some people are notwho they seem to be on the outside.
