Those defenses are based on small animals and creatures without prehensile appendages.... we can easily break off a rose regardless of the thorns..... yes I was trying to make that point about crops earlier..... but fruit head came in and changed the text of my argument.... err context rather.... I read about scientific study a few years back where they hooked plants up to the machine they use for EEGs, the machine detects small electrical changes.
They discovered a miniscule pulse went through the plant right before someone cut it.
Where they sought to answer the question "do plants feel pain?" they actually discovered a new question "do plants have Aprehension"
More that likely it's part of their defence mechanisim, flooding themselves with repairing stuff (Scientific or what?!?!)
Or it could be the bioelectrical field of the person doing the cutting..
Or...

Bah.... who cares.... we need them to live.... we need to consume them.... we need them for oils, flour, protien.... etc.... without plants we would die.... also.... plants use carbon dioxide to energize thier photosynthesis.... without it they would die.... so fruities argument about us needing them more is incorrect.... we need the oxygen they release and they need the Carbon dioxide we breathe out..... so it is a two way street there.... It is a two ways street for all living things, but "humans" are not the only carbon dioxide producers...if we were suddenly to just disappear than plants would be able to "carry on" they may have to adjust a bit to a less amount of carbon dioxide(billions of people, vehicles, cigarettes, pollution, eradication etc.) but they would have all they need, they would adapt...plants do not need us at all, none of nature really does, we simply co-exist with her, we are just currently the dominate species... Plants breath in oxygen at night and excrete carbon dioxide anyway, they only reverse the process for photosynthesis.
But Dyshade is right, very few plants have defences against us.
And we know that plants can create defences against us as some already have.

Ok, Dyshade, if everyone who opposes you is a fruit, I guess I should bow to you oh master.
Plants have no defenses against us, so we eat them... you have no defense against me killing you, so I guess I shall harvest some nice human delicacy... yum. I'll have to make sure the poison acts quickly, and makes my victim comatose, the chemicals of a dead body aren't very appetizing; also, I guess I'll have to make sure it decomposes. It's never fun to die the same way your food does.
I suppose if you never saw it coming... but I don't want to ruin the delicious meat of your brain...
Humans are such weak creatures; why don't we start eating them? Ever read "A Modest Proposal?" Yum.

I've disagreed with Dy and he's never called me a fruit, and I do bow to him!:p
Dyshade does have defenses against being "eaten" all humans do, we can run or fight...plants do poison and some plants do actually "eat" live food.
If you have to poison something in order to kill it and eat it, than that is obviously a defensive reaction on the part of prey...and some people do eat other peopleconfused:

The point is that no plant, nor mammal is the superior being on earth. It is, in fact, scorpions that should be ruling us all.

Yum. | Wow.... your startling debate skills astound and awe me into an ecstacy of complacence..... however I do notice that there is one integral flaw with your above argument..... I do have the means and Will to defend against blatant attacks against my person as well as not so blatant ones.... I suppose you shall have to change your plans.... as for poisoning someone.... thats just so.... 20's..... outdated.... To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. Not serious at all, but if you look at the heirarchy between mammals/plants/scorpions, somethings really wrong:
1 - Mammals (Nature's thinkers)
2 - Scorpions (Nature's tanks)
3 - Plants (Nature's givers)
Don't scorpions look terribly out of place? I mean c'mon, they're natures tanks! Tanks man!
I'll say something on a serious note though.
If evolution is indeed true (as I tend to think it is) then humans are quite temporary. We have an "artificial evolution."
Everyone here is talking about how plants are so far below us on the evolutionary scale.
They're not. They're at the same level. Potentially they evolve faster.
Case and point: Evolution is mathematical. The more of a particular being you have, the faster evolution will happen. True that human beings evolve fast. But plants evolve faster. This is due to the extreme diversity and overwhelming numbers of plants. They mate (and potentially produce offspring) every year, which the human is capable of but rarely performs.
Another example. Insects. Insects outnumber plants and humans, and mate a whole lot more. On an evolutionary scale they're leaps and bounds ahead of us.
Final example. Single-Celled Organisms. Specifically, viruses. There's no cure for the common cold. Why? Because the common cold is actually caused by a different virus every time. It's not the same virus that comes around year after year, it's a completely new one with similar symptoms. Viruses evolve so fast that our immune system can barely keep up. Single-Celled organisms are light-years ahead of humans on an evolutionary spectrum.
And the point: The only reason Humans are higher on the food chain than everything else is this accursed technology that's going to screw us over in the end. Sure technology can be a good thing. It can save lives, make us powerful. But as long as it's used to line a few family's pockets with gold and to wage war on other humans, technology will actually always be a hidden nemesis to the human race. Our technology will grow until it becomes so powerful it destroys us. I might sound like a doom prophet, but I wouldn't neccesarily refer to it as "doom" because we have the ability to change our destiny in this case...

ummmm....I never said we were better than plants, infact I find they are often times better listeners, and if you listen really hard, they give good advice too...especially ash and birch trees To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. I'm not sure, I'm thinking that one insane guy with the multiple personality disorder (you know, the one that wrote the bible) named it. It's got tentacles that shoot out and grab it's pray then bring it back in. It's like a squid or an octopus except death is near instantaneous...

ounce for ounce ants are stronger...... if there is such a thing as a tank in nature it would be the common ant.... no other creature has a strength comparable to an ant.... and they group up on you...
