The language of dreams - 09-21-02

There are two types of dreams: regular and profound. Dreams are the language of the subconscious mind. As our conscious mind shuts down and our thoughts lessen to a lull, our primative, subconscious mind (or the id) takes over and begins to translate our memories into it's own language. What many of us do not know is that there is a lot to learn about ourselves from the interpretations of the id. Symbolism and personal meaning is the key to unlocking the mysteries of our minds.
I decided to start this thread so that i could help people understand the meaning behind their dreams, thus becoming closer to understanding themselves. This thread is not like a dream dictionary where you look up something and it tells you what it means. I know that i can not tell you what an object in your dream means more than you could tell me why saxophon music makes me feel violent. The answers lie in symbolism and everyone interprets things differently. I only point out common ways of percieving things due to ones enviroment, culture, and a general understanding of the human mind. The information i give is based soley on my opinion and is not intended to prove or disprove anything.
How this thread is run
1- I will only interpret one dream per person, so choose wisely.
2- i will not respond to any further comments on a dream i have already given an analysis on (unless i feel the need to)
3- I will only respond to dreams i choose. If yours is not one of them i'm sorry.
Presenting a dream for analysis
Please try and keep dreams as short and to the point as possible. You do not need to include minor details just the things that stood out to you. Please explain the perspective from which you are seeing things. Often times in my dreams i switch from experiencing to watching. Don't forget to describe how you felt in response to certain things or situations. Lastly, feel free to tell me what you thought of the dream or how you intepret it.
One last word
I may be absent from this thread for long periods of time and will always do my best to keep things updated. Thanx for visiting!

As I have stated elsewhere, my dreams are hectic, and never the same. In fact, I have had such a variety that at times I wonder about my sanity.

Utter chaos. twisting rampant colors roar in from the upper left of my first-person omniscient view. people standing in line and exchange red-hot pokers, their eyes glow red. I'm stuck in a snowed-in cabin filled with strangers ahving a party without me. All at once. I get this dream 3-4 times a week. And the same physical feelings i get during this dream recur, on average, once every day.

Stealing in dreams often means (if you do it deliberately) you are in need of something. The id does not care about silly consequences, if it needs something it will take it. Especially if it is something like food.

know why i would attack a lamp right next to my table as soon as i wake once or twice a month?
If you are attacking and you feel aggressive, perhaps there are some hard feelings you are holding on to. You are holding back some sort of anger or rage that can only come out when you are not conciously trying to hold it back (or ignore it.) To stop this from occuring, get in touch with that feeling when you are experiencing it. Feel deep into the center of it and find its source. Once you can determine a source the solution is not too far away.
If you are attacking and you are afraid, you might have a unresolved fear of someone (or something) past or present. Once again let yourself explore this feeling. Why are you scared?

It would seem to me that variety promotes a healthy mind. If you were to have the same dreams constantly, that might suggest that there is a problem almost like a blockage. You would have to face that problem or else your brain would get backed up and all you would think about is that problem (in the dream state.) You know what they say "Hell is repetition."

People having a party without you although you are present- This might mean you are separating yourself. (maybe for a good reason) Red eyes often indicates some sort of negativity that repells you. The eyes being windows to the deeper aspects of ones personality. They are exchanging hot pokers- that seems dangerous. Another indication that these people are not good or might be a threat. You are stuck somewhere you don't want to be with people you do not trust. (does this describe something in your life?) You could take it externally (in relation to everyday life) or you could take it internally (in relation to ones self) or it could be both. The colors are a little hard to interpret- What colors do you see most? Where do they come from? Are they good or bad to you? If they are a positive force in your dream it could mean you have more power over the situation than you think. Its up to you to figure out. You might want to try and leave this cabin even if it is snowed in. You might open the door and find you only thought it was snowed in. Often times we stand in our own way.

Lucid Dreaming - 09-25-02

My visit to the underworld. (my interpretations)

I was watching Chris and Martin Cratt swim in a pond in the woods behind my boyfriends house. (a tv show i used to watch as a kid)The water was dark and murky. (water- a portal. murky-unknown)They were talking about beavers and how they build their dens (like in the show Cratts Creatures.) I thought it strange they would want to swim in that water with god knows what in it. But it looked like they were having fun, and i really love to swim. I finally jumped in despite my fears of swimming in murky water. I twisted and turned till my clothes came off.(freeing myself from the binds of what society tells you is nessescary) I surfaced and their was this big box the size of my living room floating next to a dock. They were boarding now so i went inside. There was this lady standing next to a tiolet. (tiolet-something i try to avoid) She closed the door and pulled a lever and the box went underwater. Water began to gush from the tiolet till it reached my waist.(again, the tiolet threatens my corfotability) I looked hesitantly at the lady and she assured me that it was just a glitch in the design and we would all be fine. Finally we arrived. The water drained and i stepped outside not knowing what to exspect. Outside it was bright and beautiful although there was no apparent light source. We came out of the side of a hill where there was a spring gushing from its side. A puddle of muddy mineral water was at the bottom and i grabbed the mud and smeared it all over my legs thinking it might be good for my skin. My friend Susan (my partner in many excursions) did the same then we agreed to explore around. It was like a beautiful park but no one else was around. There was a paved pathway we followed to a fountain. Although the fountain was only 2 feet deep i jumped in and swam around like it was a pool. The water was so warm! It felt so good. I remember golden light sparkling through the casting out rays of white crystal light. I got out. Sue said she wanted to go that way. There was a feild and hills in the distance. It seemed bright and pleasent. In the other direction was some snow covered woods and a slope in the land. I knew i wanted to swim more so told her i was going that way. We parted and and walked than ran barefoot naked through the snowy forest. I remember thinking this snow is not cold, I am dreaming. I finally got to the slope in the land. There was a dark lake and houses set up along side. An old man was washing clothes on the shore. I approached him and he began telling me about how his sweater was made of corn flakes. I thought that to be pretty neat. He babbled on and i grew impatient. I kissed him pationately and bid him gooodbye he was still talking when i left.(i was now aware i could do as i pleased) I entered a house the living room was all green(green to me means life and love) from the walls to the furniture. The den pink.(pink- primal and raw) a bedroom blue.(peace and comfort) "Why are you in my house?" a young girl asked me. "Is your brother home" i asked? (i wanted sex)I wanted a man near me. I saw my boyfriend leaving the house. I followed him out and caught up to him. "I was looking for you" i said. I looked into his eyes it was as if i was really looking at him. We walked up a mountain trail with some thing in pursuit. My boyfriend and my friend Shawn (my childhood buddy and friend of13 yrs)climbed up a big rock. I looked at it and thought that i am not good at climbing. These purple balls of fuzz(doubt) held up signs that said "you can't do that" I said "i can't do that." Something seemed strange. Wait, the thing was getting closer. it was light a haze that clouded over and everything faded into wakefulness.

Boy that was long! A very nice dream.
:sleepy:

The feelings I said recur so frequently: Power being wrenched from me like water from a sponge, an intense feeling of silence, a gaping feeling, like i'm a hundred miles from even the clothes i'm wearing. It's a sort of painful and hollow but very wide and very real awareness. I get this feeling suddenly at various times and it triggered by the most random things but it is most familiar from that dream.

The colors: All colors really, all very brilliant on a black background and forming sickly, horrifying, yet comical faces occasionally. They seem more like a force of nature than somehting that is exclusive to my dream. I can feel those "twisting colors" every time I feel scared.

Dreams often show us the depths of our sorrows. It sounds as if you need to confront this feeling then move on. When you find yourself in that place that is void and hollow, vast and lonely, use that space to expand your heart and mind. Don't be a slave to your emotions. You control them, they don't control you.

Synthesia- feeling colors. Another way for our id to personify our emotion. Perhaps these colors are a way of getting your attention. Try confronting them and see what happens.

I have had the same two themed dreameds repeatedly throughout my life. They are never exactly the same, but I am always on a high building, ledge or scaffolding and I am very unstable and scared of falling (although I do not suffer from vertigo IRL), but never do.

The second involves water - it may be a river full of weeds and bodies which I am immersed in, or the ocean's waves full of sharks lapping at my feet.

I'm told that they are anxiety/worry dreams, but the repetitiveness of them is creepy.

Everything passes away - suffering, pain, blood, hunger, pestilence. The sword will pass away too, but the stars will still remain when the shadows of our presence and our deeds have vanished from the earth. There is no man who does not know that. Why, then, will we not turn our eyes towards the stars? Why?

I do agree that such dreams could be are rooted in worry. Sometimes i have dreams where i am riding in a car and the driver drives off a bridge. In that moment i am forced to resign to death. My fear stems from a mistrust for something that far from the ground. Death has more potential in such places.
I also might interpret You are a person whom prefers to be on neutral ground, and not in a place of disadvantage. In other words you like to be in charge of things. (Maybe from a more earthly standpoint.)
Water- symbolizes unconquered terrain, mystery, potential danger There is something out there you are not sure of that poses a threat (or maybe thats just what you think.) Fear of the unknown.
