Dunno if this is the right place for this but fuckit.

A few years ago I was headhunted for a job designing lingerie amongst other things.
One of the other things however was checking that the machines in the factory were up to scratch and sort them out if they weren't.
The guy that had the job before me had an accident at work and that's how the job came up.
Some of the machines spin a two inch tube at 700 rpm, this tube is has hooked needles at the top to pull threads in.
One day the guy was listning to the bearings in the machine to make sure they were sound and the tube caught his ponytail and ripped his scalp and ears off.

I was headhunted and interviewed by phone (It's nice to have a good professional reputation ) and when I turned up to start the job they noticed I had a ponytail down to my waist and told me the story and asked me to cut it off.

The job was great and sanity being what it is I cut it off but would you?

Would you change your image for a good job?

Yes unless it was a 24/7 position I could look how I liked the rest of the time.

I have lost 2 jobs so far over my hair... I refuse to adjust my physical looks because another demands it.

In my view u shuldnt change ur physical appperance just bocz some1 else demands it. However with the situation above thay have asked u to do it for your saftey not just to satisfy their egos, so this is probably an exception

Being a salesman, I have to keep my appearance nice and "socially pleasing." I used to have really long hair, and I miss it. Maybe one day I'll grow it again.

He was in intensive care for a couple of days, they managed to sew his scalp back on but there was nerve damage so he has no feeling in his scalp or ears now.

I heard of that happening in a work place also...a girl was cleaning out one of those icee machines and her hair got caught in the blending mechanism...fortunatly there was another worker who was able to turn of the machine...she just lost her hair...
in a case of a good job and for safety reasons...I'd cut it...life becomes more than a vanity issue...

I would have cut it some...and then tied it up thoroughly when at work...but then again, I'm very vain about my hair. I've had it short once, never again...

Oh now that's a contentious issue, it tends to change of it's own accord, as do my eyes which got me in passport trouble once

My hair goes from blond to brown thru red.
My little beardy thing is red with blond streaks around my bottom lip.

I used to be vain about my hair, took really good care of it but I've grown sort of attached to my scalp and I'd prefer it to stay that way

Hehehe...I can relate. I would still have tied it up though, it may not look all that masculine, but it works.

well it would depend on ones vanity and love of their hair. if their hair was crap anyway and cutting it off would be an improvement...

for me though, it would depend on the job, but then again, i don't think i'd want a job where i'd have to change my appearence [well i don't count dressing a bit neater].

and yeah, since it's for saftey reasons rather than for a corporate image, it's not so bad.

Three years since last scissors touched them...

I have to cut it some once in a while...to get rid of split ends and stuff, since I dye it all the time. But it's still closing in on my waist. My hair grows fast... :p
